BF 1942 - Insert Disc

Trying to play BF1942 but it keeps asking for the disc that's already in the drive.

Game is fully patched, I've tried disabling daemon tools and virtual drives, running with compatability modes, restarted PC.

I'm running vista 32 bit with UAC off and the computer does recognise the disc as battlefield 1942... Except when trying to run the game.

ps. I'm not sure if it's relevant but my disc drive letter is E: Instead of D: (which was common back when 1942 was released)

Try making an image or using a mini image?

Then what would I need to create images?

You can get mini-images from around the web. Just Google :)

They are completely legal, but don't download a crack, they will get you kicked by PB.

A friend of mine says to change your drive letter of your CD rom drive by going to Computer Management or right click My Computer and select Manage then right click on the E: drive and change it to D: drive. That should solve your disk location issue with the older BF games.

I thought it might be that but my 2nd hard drive takes that letter.

There used to be a problem with nforce mother boards not recognising the disc, but that was a long time ago. If you have a nforce motherboard the fix is the same for bf2 in the Sticky Tecnical FAQ.
I used to use a ***** crack with no problems, but that was 4 years ago, pb may kick for it now.

unreadable disk [dirty:o or scratched] and try a different drive if possible
