  • Considering Buying a Headset

i want to buy a headset but there are a few issues

    1) i don't know what kind to buy so if you could reccomend one that would be good

    2) is installing/using one hard to install because i don't want to go through a lot to use a headset

Questions that may help with user suggestions once you've answered.

    1. What's your budget?
    2. Are you looking for stereo? or multi-channel (surround)?
    3. What sound card do you have?

and installing head-sets isn't difficult. The only real complication you get is when using surround sound headphones, some may require external power (medusa headsets for example) - and you do need to plug the wires into the correct outputs on your soundcard. Beyond that, it's just about calibrating them correctly in your sound-card software (if you have one).

        Key work being cheap....

I was in the same dilemma a couple months back. Don't buy logitech, you can get SOOOOO much better quality for the money going elsewhere...

I got a set of Plantronics GameCom......$60 at best buy.....they are comfy and they rock. They are not surround sound though, however they make a $99 version that is.

        Just my .02

          Can't go wrong with Sennheiser.

Have a look at the PC151 or 161.

I had some Sennheiser PC151's and they were awesome. Only got rid of them as I got some HD555's.

Do you have a soundcard (IE, not onboard sound)?

No. I think it is onboard.

Well, out of the two, i've heard people have the fatal1ty and say it's alright. Look at the Sennheiser PC151's as well (dunno if they are too costly)

Thing is, my old creative headset had a fault and I have been offered an upgrade between the two above.

Do you know which one is better? Newer? More expensive?

I need to make a choice.

Out of the two, i'd go Fatal1ty as i've only heard good things about it. Not heard anything about the Creative.

Cool. I also see sometimes that there is the same headset but with normal jack-in or usb option. Does it make a difference? and which is better?

Well, for you, it won't matter. If you had a dedicated sound card, i'd get 3.5mm jack.

Although, I would probably go for that anyway.
