  • What new gametypes would you like to see?

    Well, figured I'd liven the forums a bit and make a more focused thread rather than adding to the "what would you like to see in MW2" thread. As the title says, what game modes/types would you like to see either implemented or tweaked? Personally, despite my love for Search and Destroy, I would love to see something similar to the following:

    -Hostage/VIP
    Just like in AA, one team has to escort a [wounded] VIP/hostage to an extraction point. Though this requires a slightly more realistic style of play, I could see it being very popular if done correctly and on the right maps - I know it was one of my favorite game modes in America's Army, and I'm sure many other players would love to see it brought to Call of Duty.

    -A tweaked public Search and Destroy mode
    Remove claymores, perks such as 3x grenades, martyrdom, C4, etc. to make the mode more playable in public matches. I myself am a huge promod fan, but there have been times where I've wanted to play with some of my casual buddies in a public game, only to get frustrated with the use of claymores/C4 to defend bombs. Removing these would not only increase teamwork and communication, but it would introduce players to new play styles.

    So, what would you like to see, or do you agree with my choices?

    I've never played Hostage/VIP, but I've seen other players write favourably about it. In general, I'm in favour of as many different game-types as they can include.

    S&D is a game-type that I liked the concept of, but never got into it much because it seemed you had to know all of the "tricks" in order to be successful, and I'm not a fan of camping. Removing some "spammy" explosive elements as you suggest isn't a bad idea, but I'd like to also see a counter to just camping extreme angles/holes to shoot through. I have to say that when I played casual S&D on servers that allowed respawns, instead of just 1 life, I enjoyed that quite a bit. I guess this is similar to the old TOW (Tug Of War) in MOH, where 1 team was on offense, the other on defense, and you had to complete various objectives, but you respawned if you died. Maybe removing some of those explosives, and allowing respawns be default could be the "pub" version of S&D, as I think a lot of pub players avoid that game-type somewhat because of the 1 life/waiting to respawn.

    I'd also hope they bring CTF and WAR game-types over from CODWW to MW2. CTF is really active, with constant action, and WAR has the twist of having to do the objectives in a particular order, and to have to go backwards and re-do them if you lose a flag.

      This may have been mentioned in the other thread, but make "old school" CoD1/2 style; weapons relative to faction, no perks, etc. (basically what your 2nd suggestion is). It can't hurt to give it a try - CoD4's "old school" was a complete and utter failure.

        Whiskey, that's actually not a bad idea for respawns in SD - I know that I played in a few servers like that in WaW and I noticed that they were much popular than regular SD where you couldn't respawn. And CTF would be a nice idea, the closest CoD4 got, from what I know, was with SAB, but that was with one bomb and the teams had to fight over it, so it would be nice to see CTF.
        Basically, I'd like to see some cool new game types besides TDM and FFA that everybody played in CoD4 - I wasn't much of a fan for those two modes, so I never really pubbed much.

        As for Iwantcable's idea, if old school was implemented that way it could actually help merge the competitive/casual community. No perks, sided weapons, etc. was something that the competition mods focused on, so bringing the to CoD:MW2 from the start would not only introduce casual players to more competitive styles of play, but could also bring more competitive players to public servers.

          i'd like to see a CTF gametype where there is only 1 flag and u have to deliver the flag to the opponents base from a flag base in the middle of the field.....almost like the aforementioned VIP gametype but in this case u ahve to protect your flag carrier

            A little addition to domination.(one of my favorite modes)

            In Far Cry 2 theres a mode called "Uprising" which is like CoD domination except each team has a captain. The captain is the only one who can capture the points and once all the flags belong to your team, you have to kill the enemy's captain to end the match. If the enemy has all the flags you have to capture one back so you don't lose. (also you can't see who is the enemy captain by looking at the score list)

            This would really increase the amount of teamwork but I think it would probably be a pain in HC because of the lack bullets you can take while capturing.

              Sounds great in theory but what happens if it's a pub server and you end up with a smacktard/AFKer for a captain?

                I'd like to see CTF again, after all it was pretty big in CoD1/2

                And have old school be done correctly

                  Aye, CTF is a good gametype, we play it in BFE with CoD4 and it's really good imo

                      Almost every server had either an admin that wasn't AFK and/or they had voting on there for a new captain and for kicking.
