I'm having a tough time figuring out why Wake is so popular compared to other maps. Maybe it's because I've only played it on BF2142.

I think the reason is that its the PUSH map, too many maps were not like that.
Also the fabulous nature. I remember old 1942 days when there was all flags taken by the enemy and I had to help my team, over and over by swimming over the inner sea to get flag and save my teammates asses :p

Looking at those images, I actually prefer the 1942 colour scheme over BF2s. The latter almost seemed to have too much gamma making surfaces too bright and reflective.

Although, 1943 simply looks amazing!

Wasn't the greatest but I prefered it over Bf2 and the others... Yet it was really hard to get people to play.
