    No Doors

Has anyone noticed that all the new FPS's have no functioning doors?

The last good FPS I can remember that had them was Medal of Honor Allied Assault.

My guess as to why is that they slow game play down because you are unable to move through a map freely if you have to open a door at every building.

That kind of made it fun to, if you slow the game play up a bit you have more chances to do more tactical things in my opinion.

They obviously make it like that to stop you running through the whole map before completing tasks, If they were to make it so you could open doors then you could pretty much just run through all the sh*t fight and straight to the objectives which would in turn speed the game up.

As for having useable doors on multiplayer, that would kinda suck imo.

Did you ever play MOH:Allied Assault or MOH:Spearhead? The doors were a terrific feature and added to gameplay/strategy in many ways. They had a few minor bugs that could've been ironed out, but overall they were great. They forced people to be a bit smarter when moving around, and prevented over-use of snipers shooting thru multiple open spaces.

They do slow the chaotic run 'n gunning down a bit, and probably do add to the complexity of how maps are handled in MP, so I'm guessing that's why IW didn't include them when they left 2015 and started up the COD series.

Thank you for the random thought about the good ole MoHAA days. I definitely miss the doors. It added a lot of strategy to the gameplay along with messing with people. I used to love being across the bridge, up in the top of hotel opening one door then the next while crouched. I would mess with the sniper across the street, then bam, pop him easily b/c he was looking at the other window.

Not to mention also, glass windows that break, and I mean actually break and stay broken so you know someone has been there need to come back.

ALSO, freakin' weapon bob, bring it back! CoD: Hovercraft has been one thing about the CoD series I have never liked.

            Doors slow down gameplay.

Games like CoD are meant to have fast paced action, having to open doors slows down the gameplay and could make the game less fun. Also, when doors are added in multiplayer maps, they're usually buggy (people get stuck in them, they don't have hinges/they open either way).

It wouldnt be bad to have one or two large buildings have some working doors or elevators. BF:SF had a working elevator on the air map and it was pretty fun. Of course they also had zip lines and grapling hooks, which made the game really exciting

i would love to see some doors that opened on any new cod games....i think that it would slow down the gameplay just enough to make it even some-what (i use this loosely) fun for those who dont enjoy as fast-paced a game as the newer cod's are. elevators i would love to see because i love multi-story building fights on some of the custom cod 4 maps.....sniper positions here and there but still have to watch yur back from the players bum-rushing the s*** outta ya

That's pretty much where I'm coming from as well. MOHAA/SH weren't slow games by any means...they just weren't the ADHD spaz-fest that COD4 can often become.

The maps in those games were also generally better designed...you could usually be shot from 2 or 3 directions at most, not the 4-5 or more in COD4 because of all the open pathways. There were fewer "lucky"/opportunity kills by players from long distances through doors/windows, or who stumbled across people already engaged in a fight. You could move around a lot more without as much fear of being killed by some camper.

Rainbow six vegas? Seeing under the door, blowing it up, or shooting it is a viable option.

Left 4 dead has doors. Again strategic. Slow down horde or boss infected.

                      Re: No Doors

                      Various reasons:

The CoD series is geared towards Consoles first, PC second... I don't think the console guys would like to have to keep opening doors every couple seconds...

The 'should we have ACTIVATE open doors AND pickup weapons, but what if there is a weapon on the floor where the door is' obstacle... they would need to ensure that if you look directly at the door it would open the door and not pickup the weapon (although it seems to work fine now)

CoD series is run n gun - they didn't want to slow the game down with doors, I forget what interview it was with IW when they talked about respawns and how they tweaked it so you respawned with your team, and they said "we did this so you spawn right back in the action with your teammates and continue the fight, we don't want the stop-n-start gameplay, we want constant immense action" - something along those lines anyway, which they did achieve, and it did sell.

The 'glitches' with doors... MOHAA had them, you could block doors, you could nade through the gap under the door too (mostly used it on V2 when attacking the top right side and someone would sit at the top of the ladder blocking that door, but if you opened the door the sniper in the bomb room would be aiming at your head)

Although, I miss them alot, I remember going 0-0 in a 20 minute half on TDM 5v5 for the top spot in Clanbase on Algiers... we camped the middle pass building? I forget the name, it was the one that had stairs that go up... and it was large, only 3 doors (2 downstairs, one of the level after the stairs) - not sure where the other team camped, probably near the radio room, above the bathroom/ladder area place... anyway, we both camped the whole map since we wanted the top spot and didn't want to lose on algiers, we picked stalingrad and as soon as that map loaded up it was all guns blazing lol was a great 2nd half of the match... (well 3rd quarter, since we played both sides to each map, the 2nd part of algiers the score was 8-6 since we rushed a little for some kills then retreated and camped radio room)

Anyway, I'd love to see doors again, maybe even make it a server dvar? That'd be awesome, so you could enable doors or have them 'removed, always open' - since doors add alot of tactical gameplay to a map. Especially since you can only get one person to run through the door way - who usually always dies instantly... if we had doors in CoD4 people could actually use flash bangs (well people do, but I'm sure more people would if we had them) and I'm sure we'd see more shotgunners too.

CoD actually started as a PC game only. The foundation of popularity for the entire series is wholly due to PC gamers.

Yes, but there is more money to be made on the console side and they know they can push us around a bit before we really do anything about it.
