    Friends Online/Offline

OK, so I have a problem with WaW.

My friends list does not seem to be working correctly. It will have people come online then offline then online then offline. People will be offline when I am in the same server playing with them. They see me as offline and say they see me going on and off. Since this is happening to all my friends on my friendslist my conclusion is that its me.

So, anyone seen this problem and have resolved it? Is there a file for the friends list? Maybe its corrupt and I need to delete it and start over. I dont know if deleting everyone would delete the friends list file also. I would think it would not.

I do not play with software firewalls/antivirus/or spyware on. Its all off before I start to play. I opened the game port for CoD on my hardware firewall to see if that would resolve it, but it did not.

System is all up to date and I am running the 1.3 patch, but this problem started back at 1.1. Also, the problem started out of the blue. My list used to work just fine up until a couple months ago. No driver/patch changes, but I have installed a few games since then, though I wouldnt think another game would cause the problem.

Anyone have some things to try?

I'm not sure why yours just started acting up, but I've had similar issues with it since Day 1 of release, and even back during the MP Beta:
Homepage for Total Gaming Network and CS-Nation. Get the latest video game news, previews, and reviews on a daily basis.

I know that some people have almost no trouble with it, others find it almost useless (myself included). I've gone back to using XFire to find friends in-game.

If yours just started happening, all I can think of is that either the Activision Master Server is reporting data incorrectly, or, somehow the file on your system (I haven't yet tried to find out which one it is) has started to become corrupt (if so, mine has been that way since early on). I don't know about you, but I have a large number of people in my list to test it out, so maybe that's part of the problem too.

I'm tempted to make a list on paper of the names in my Friends List, then delete them all and start over again.

It's a bummer though. What could've/should've been a great added feature to this game to bring people together easier seems to have fizzled out quite a bit.

Thats a good point. Maybe it has to do with the number of friends to keep track of. I started with a small list of people and as it grew, maybe thats when it became unstable.

Im going to try to figure out if there is a file for it and maybe do what you suggest and shrink the names down and see what happens.

If anyone knows of anything else, please post.

I myself had not had any problems that I know of. I know that I usually see you online while I'm playing though. You're actually one of the few that is online almost always except for when like Whiskey or a couple of others are purposely on there for zombies together. Otherwise I still use xfire.

So, if I almost always see you online, maybe you're perpetually online in the system somehow causing you errors? Kind of like this 'qport error' with custom maps. I will still be 'in the server' with my name and such, but I'm not even in game anymore, let alone in that person's server. But through xfire I can see it, and I confirm it with people in vent that they see me in there. The Openwarfare mod doesn't have this prob.

I'm not sure if that helps, but it's another idea thrown out that can hopefully lead to your solution.

          I play a lot

See, thats part of the problem. I look for you and Whiskey ALL THE TIME and Ive only seen whiskey on once. Ive NEVER seen you online.

Thats what irks me. Its good to know that someone sees me though. That still makes it think its something on my end.

Just how my stalker plan was meant to work...yes. :drevil:

Maybe when I see you next time, I can try contacting you on there or something.

I change my server filter to "Friends" almost every time I play, and it either comes back with no one online, or I get a name and a server, but that person isn't actually on the server when I click on "Server Info"...sort of like that "qport" thing, maybe leaving a "ghost" image behind after they left, or from another server entirely. :hmm:

The only way I find Jo online is thru Xfire.

Word, same for me. I never see any friends' servers or they're not actually there. Maybe it will be fixed in a patch soon? Xfire, still standing strong.

                  Re: Friends Online/Offline

OK, so after testing and looking at the files of WaW, I have come to the conclusion that the friends list is NOT stored on the PC but an activision server.

With that being said, I deleted EVERYONE and sent out new invites. Everyone who has accepted is now working on the friends list.

So, in conclusion, there does not seem to be anything anyone can do themselves about it other than delete it and start again and hope it works.

I was hoping it would have been a file.
