BF2 crash after motherboard replaced

After replacing the motherboard on my pc, bf2 is crashing. It runs fine single player, but CTD's at the bigin of the map load when online.

As the replacement MB ASUS p5 kpl-cn - was just a newer model of my old MB i didnt do a window reinstall. Everything else goes fine, just crashes BF2. should I?

Any help im hangin to play?

If your motherboard stayed the same, you can sometimes get by with just popping the new motherboard in assuming all your settings were default. However, with a new motherboard model a reinstall of windows is completely necessary.

Backup all your stuff and then reinstall windows. The plus side is that you clear a lot of junk off your PC and you should see a nice speed boost. :thumbsup:

Cheers mate. Is there a way to reinstall windows without reformatting the HDD? I might try just reinstalling bf2 first.

Yeah, changing motherboard usually means replacing numerous drivers, primarily the chipset software. It's best to do a Windows reinstall with a motherboard.

The best course of action would be to back up your important data on a different drive or DVD's and then do a full format. Without partitions, it's impossible to reinstall windows without losing your data.

yeah the reinstall of bf2 failed so i will now progress to a reformat. I was hoping to avoid it. Everything else runs sweet, except for bf2. Reformat it is!

aaarrgghh!

got around to doing a reformat. Thats all good but am now getting a REBOOT when i try to launch a map multiplayer. Bf2 still works fine in single player, but in mutliplayer, when i click on a server, it loads for about 1 second then bang - computer reboots!!!

so obviously hardware. As its a new motherboard prob not that. Vid card in Geforce 7950gt. Worked fine before. 2GB Ram.

Any ideas whats causing a system reboot at mapload? Its a pretty evil form of CTD!

Go to Start > Run (windows key + R), type sysdm.cpl, click ok

Startup & Recovery > Settings, System Failure - turn off Automatically restart

Next BSOD you can read, may be get a clue as to the problem, especially if a driver name is mentioned.

I'll go out on a limb and say it's either a serious hardware fault or BSOD will tell you the problem. Usually a gfx driver or more commonly these days the sound driver (so I hear from Vista users), so make sure you have the correct most recent drivers versions for your hardware, the wrong driver can cause BSOD or crash easy.

Also check with you, the correct order to install from fresh format C:

-OS
-necessary service pack(s) for said OS
-mobo drivers
-gfx driver
-sound drivers
