  • Ultimate Battlefield 3.5!

OK - so having read many, many posts and having played since many of you kids were but toddlers when BF1942 came out, I have come up with the ULTIMATE Battlefield IDEA! (EA - please feel free to hire me, I need a job and am willing to move).

    Ultimate Battlefield 1944

    Characters
    • Do away with “classes” and instead allow for spawning with desired loadouts. (i.e. pick a main weapon (rifle or smg), secondary (knife or pistol), equipment (grenades, medkit, radio/binoculars), etc)
    • Special weapons with heavy firepower should be pick-up kits only. This would include all machineguns (Bren, MG-34, MG-44, BAR, tripod MGs), most AT kits, and sniper kits.
    • Allows players to choose head and body type. Allow mapmakers AND players/clans to put in a unit logo (low res for quick upload) [like BFV's use of unit logos]
    • Restrict pilot kits to # currently available aircraft. This will reduce planewhoring. Allow players to “get in line” for a pilot's kit. No, I don't mean camping at the airfield (which I despise)...it means you are placed in queue...when you turn comes up, you have the option of respawning without penalty in or next to your plane in a pilots kit. Easy - no more plane/chopper whores. The good pilots will get plenty of airtime for their skills, the idiots who don't bother learning flight tactics get to fly a few seconds, die, and allow a good pilot to fly. Even better - if you get TK'd within, say, 20 seconds of getting in your plane you are immediately placed back in queue for the next plane. And the TK'er gets dropped from queue. And booted from the server [ok just kidding - I don't even try to fly as I suck, but I hate when people screw up teamplay 'cause they want to play].
    • Server-side Switch allowing for parachutes for all, pilots only, or none.
    • Restrict tanker kits for # of tanks...such kits should include a knife, pistol, binoculars, wrench, and bandage. Perhaps an SMG such as the grease gun.

    Weapons
    • For God's sake, put some realism back in! Place weapons according to year and availability. Have the weapon's name display in HUD.
    • Switch to show or hide remaining ammo.
    • Have a Server Switch allowing for realistic damage (one-shot kills) for hardcore gamers, and arcade damage (for those who prefer that). I would hope this would address most concerns in these two camps.

    Vehicles
    • Tanks should have realistic sloped armor. You need the right round to penetrate the armor and destroy a vehicle.
    • Again, have a switch that nerfs the armor to 50% of its value. And/or allows small arms such as grenades to damage it.
    • BRING BACK SHIP COMBAT. We need carriers, subs, battleships and destroyers. Make sure long-range fire is accounted for.
    • Vehicle Ammo. Allow a switch to set to realism (vehicles carry realistic loadouts and must LAND or RESUPPLY), forgiving (planes must simply overfly a carrier/airbase) and fun (planes carry 15 bombs at a time, ships have unlimited ammo, etc).
    • Create a couple all-aircraft maps again like Battle of Britain! Wow those rocked.

    Engine
    • Fix the crappy hitboxes from BF2...we all know they trail the character by about two feet – fix it. Make hitting difficult and reward patience.
    • Switch to allow more forgiving hit boxes/aimed fire.
    • Add exploding limbs, gore and blood. Make it real, man. Again, a switch to turn this off for the kids.
    • Eliminate shooting while jumping. Eliminate dolphin diving by having slowly-closing crosshairs. Allow crosshairs to remain closed while crouch-walking.
    • Bring back bomber kits [from FH1] those were cool. Sounds like BF1943 has the similar idea. Why the hell is EA always a few years behind what the modders can do?

    Overall
Hire Lustvig as your marketing manager. Because the folks I saw in the videos were...well...not good. I could out-market them any day of the week, AND create all your written/promotional material, AND help you make an awesome game. So hire me, and make the Battlefield community happy! (right guys? nudge...nudge...)

To me, it seems like we COULD have the best of both worlds by the addition of "switches" that would change the game rules on the fly via the server OR perhaps a voting system before a set (say of 3 games) begins. That way the arcade gamers get their silliness, and the realism gamers get their challenge. OR mix and match!

    More ideas? Add em!

    Characters
-Too much like CoD4 create-a-class imo, there needs to be some pre-existing template for a class for better balance. Like rifle-nade launcher-special grenade and SMG-AT launcher-mines for example.
-Pick up kits, do real armies leave important assets lying around? Okay maybe they do already in BF2 but many pick up kits would make it feel "not Battlefield". Every other BF game has had kits, not pick up weapons.
-Pilot/tanker kits feel to much like PR and would hamper quick gameplay. Maybe a server-side option for vehicle kits?

    Weapons
-Oh god yes weapon name/vehicle type needs to be put in the corner near the weapon menu/vehicle seat indicator. Can't believe how much time I spent trying to figure out what the heck an "AMV-2 Groundhog" was in 2142.
-Hardcore/softcore would split the playerbase imo, not a good thing.

    Vehicles
-All these damage and ammo variables? Honestly, I wouldn't like it, but if people want it, there should be a good way to indicate which servers are what. Maybe a "vanilla" icon for plain servers, but damage modded servers should still be ranked, so people don't have to go for mods.

    Engine
-Hitboxes. Who doesn't want these fixed?
-Blood/gore, nah, BF is arcadey enough that the lack of blood doesn't seem out of place. And we would lose the bodies flying 50 feet through the air after standing next to a AT mine that went off if there was gore.

Tbh, the only switches I would want implemented are commander, vehicles (on a slider [none - ground transports only - transports only - all]), and FF.

The SWoWW2 mod for BF1942 had the jetpack which was a pick-up kit, as was the flamethrower kit in the pacific mod for BF:V.

From my point of view, you're trying to make the game too realistic while I love BF for its arcady features (and I know I'm not alone)

You have a good mind for ideas though. Customization is the key, let gamers play on a server that suits them. I personally would like to see the commander removed, but for those that want to keep it there should be a server option for it.

Remove all the ranked/unranked crap, all it does is promote stat whoring. Not to mention the large amount of brilliant custom maps that never get played Mod support as well, together with lots of ingame content, makes it epic

I could see pick up kits for very special kits like those two, but making AT and sniper pick up only is going a bit far.

So no blood and gore? Yeah - I'd like it but it would restrict the playerbase. I wouldn't want my kid to see realistic gore. Pop culture is corrupting him enough as it is....

Exactly - I think the best solution would involve switches that affect the numeric formulas in the game...that way you can have the arcade fun OR the realism. I think realism is much more fun - but I'm 40 and prefer that sort of thing. Heck, I love to play arcade sometimes - why cant we have the best of both worlds?

I agree removing the ranks. I'll let my clan judge my rank, thank you very much. Don't need some stupid computer to track kills - which don't matter at all. Winning for the team is important.

I hate to say it, the player base is ALREADY split. There are people who are so pissed off out Battlefield 1943 being more dolphin-diving arcade crap for 14-year-olds hopped up on Mountain Dew, while there is another core dying to play it. Me? I'll playing anything Battlefield...and destructible terrain - YEAH baby. They just need to bring back ships.

Have you ever played Forgotten Hope? Perhaps the best mod out there? It's what Battlefield should have been. THAT being said, it is a little too realism focused (although I liked FH1 better) and doesn't appeal to everyone.

I see your point on the pilot/tanker kits. Is there a way to do it like I suggested via a queue system that isn't a kludgy as PR? I agree PR can be a lot of fun AND a pain in the *** at the same time.

OH - one thing I forgot. We have to have the in-vehicle music players a la Battlefield Vietnam. Now THAT was cool.

While the in-vehicle music players in BF:V were cool, how exactly would you implement this in BF1944? You'd have to pick an era, and I doubt very many people who play this game now would really appreciate music from 1940 (no more than I would want someone playing modern music in-game).

                No stats, no radio

Only smooth online play, 64+ maps, better hit boxes, better vehicles (wingwalking back pls), better scenery

OK - how the heck can anyone not love swing, big band, and jazz. The Germans could have their silly marching songs (as long as they aren't Nazi porn), etc. Really, it would be fun.:salute:
