    COD4 or COD5 campaign?

    Hey guys,

I was just thinking after playing the COD4 campaign then the COD5 one that the COD4 SAS missions are the best of the series. They are more epic then the USMC COD4 missions and all the COD5 missions.

What I mean is just the USMC missions in both games are run and gun and nobody takes care of anybody who goes down. Also the names are always random and you don't have the same guys with you often, just a few main characters, same with the Russian campaign. I think it should be a little more like the Brothers in Arms campaigns where you get attached to the characters and restart the mission if they get hurt (well at least I do).

Also I have the french version and the text is just pitiful, but maybe it's the translation, but I don't get the English option when I start the install.

What do you guys think could be improved in the campaign?

Scrap it completely, and put all of their effort into making multiplayer perfect.

      I'm only half-kidding.

I think your right Bradley. The US side is run and gun, but thats what the US is famous for. Lets face it, we are Cowboys who shoot first and ask questions later. The other thing though is the British in CoD4 was a slower paced espionage kinda thing, giving you time to adjust and think about whats going on and getting deeper into the story. The US was a reaction to that story.

In CoD4, I feel the US side was showing the outcome of the problem while the British side was showing WHY that outcome was happening. The British missions was the apple filling and the US missions the flakey crust of that American pie

As for CoD5, I said this in another post, but I feel the whole US thing wasnt about getting to know the team, it was about survival and getting back home alive. You lost "old timers" but at least it wasnt you. I know that goes agains the Brothers in Arms mentality and I know its not entirely true, but these guys have had enough and no time to grieve for their lost brothers.

During the end of the second World War everyone was tired of fighting and just wanted to go home. The Japanese were a foe that just kept going and even in retreat would fight every inch of ground. The island hopping strategy was what needed to be done, but it had great losses and forces would spend days fighting over an island a few miles long only to get on a boat and go to the next island and do it again.

Anyway, Im rambling now Ive read a lot of books and letters about the second World War along with personal study and its very amazing how different the two war fronts were.

Edit: Almost forgot, also the translations you are reading does take away from the depth of the game. Even when you have the english version and are reading the subtitles. It makes your mind relize its more like a book and not really there.

Even though we want more story, it is a game and they can only do so much to it for the timeframe that they have. They have to focus on certain points and cant do all the in depth stuff.

Thanks for sparking a nostalgia rush. Now I want to go back and play it again.

I personally prefer the COD4 campaign overall, not taking into account that the COD5 campaign has been optimized for co-op play.

If you guys haven't yet, I suggest trying the COD5 campaign with some friends at least once. It's actually a lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be.

The thing is the US Marine Corps is a very small, very effective force, it's bassically Americas tip of the spear. Also there's a huge cameradery thing going on there. I mean with the USMC it's litterally no man or body gets left behind. Semper Fi is what I'm talking about.

Also the US Army isn't as aggresive as the USMC in general, I'm not saying their SF isn't better but they're regular army like 82nd or 101st. Correct me if I'm wrong but present me FACTS!

Anyway yeah the USMC is run and gun but it's fu**ing bad-*** agressive. (from what I've read) but it's not "Oh man down, **** him, let's go on".

I'm really in a rush right now so I typed this up quickly so i I got osme things wrong don't bash/flame me to death for it.

Thats all true, but in the CoD5 game when a main guy goes down its at the end of the level and we dont see everything that happens. In CoD4, you see that in a level when the chopper goes down. Like I mentioned before, the game can only show a certain amount. Some games, like Brothers in Arms, shows the romance of war and the brotherhood of soldiers. It was designed to be that way. None of the CoDs were designed like that. 4 was the closest and I think 5 had a great Russian ending.

COD4 had some amazing missions, my favorite All Ghilled Up. But COD WaW had some amazing battles in it as well. They tried to pull off a sniper mission, wasn't as great as 4's imo. But the battle of Berlin and some others were truly amazing.

You picked two bad examples for the "Regular" Army. Airborne Infantry and Air Assault Infantry are a little more aggressive than what you would think of as the regular army. The type of person who signs up for jumping out of an aircraft in flight, usually into darkness, knowing there is someone on the ground trying to shoot him...
Well, I can't speak for the Choking Chickens, I was never in the 101st. I only drove through Tennessee once or twice. Nice post.
One thing about leaving a man behind: part of Airborne Ops SOP was to leave anyone wounded or dead on the drop zone until the medics came. So if someone was shot on the way down or broke his leg on impact, we were supposed to leave him there and continue the fight. They weren't left for long, as medics were in every unit on every jump.

I wasn't going to say anything, but this got bumped and the forum has been dead for a while anyway.

                          Just what I prefer:

                          CoD4 Campaign > CoDWaW Campaign

                          S.A.S Missions > USMC Missions

                          Russian Missions > Marines Missions

I finished both campaigns before i played multiplayer, because i knew after i started with multi i would not go back to SP.

And i have to say i prefered COD:WAW campaign. And just to say, i am not a huge fan of WW2 games.

But the linearity in the game was way more obvious in COD4, or at least i feel like it was.

Agree, Marines got shafted in both games. At least in COD4 the Marines went out in epic fashion!
