Seems people are using the source engine to mod L4D, interesting.

What i'm Going to do is download all of the mod maps/campaigns, i'll write a lil something here about them, whether or not they're worth downloading.

All mods have a brief explination and a rank out of 5. My overall opinion is, no matter what my reviews are, its always best to try it out first hand, someones trash is another persons treasure. Also because Tanks and Witches are disabled, at some points where you feel a challenge is at hand, spawn one yourself and unleash the fun.

Single maps as an overall:
I found hardly any exitement with them, they just don't have the fun factor, unless you want to fight horde upon horde of zombies to see how long you can last, the single maps arnt for you. They have multiple errors such as texture errors, when a horde comes the lag is unbareable, theres no mission but to survive basically. (is this what the survival mode will be like in the new content?) the maps would be alot better if the errors are sorted, but with no official L4D editor what can you expect. And because of that fact all mods do not include Tanks or Witches which is a let down.

Campaigns

City Naniwa
Starting in an abandoned mall type area you fight your way through hordes of zombies & specials (No Tanks or Witches Though) There are 4 maps included in this Campaign, the first (the mall) Nice setting, Very big, when you eventually navigate your way to the saferoom you find it blocked by an electronic door, to open the gateway to the saferoom you must battle the hordes of zombies following the electrical cable around the side of the mall(a nice feature i thought) Once you have activated the switch and made it back, the 2nd level begins.

The 2nd level is your basic run of the mill city map, fight your way through to the end. There are many glitches and bugs here, but if you dont bother them they wont bother you.

The 3rd level, fight across the highway, half way through the level the Infinite Horde begin, none stop hordes attack you wave by wave, the only way to survive is to fight your way to the safehouse...or so we think, upon getting to the end i found that the map hadn't been finished properly and the route to the safehouse is blocked. The only way to finish is to either load the next level or...simpley die.

Final level, level 4, the subway, huge map again, you troll through the subway systems, fight a few hordes and eventually end up in a train safe room. End of....obviously the finale is in progress i would of thought.

Concrete Bayou
Fairly Enjoyable. Well put together, not a strong campaign as it only consists of 1 map, but thats enough for this mini campaign. Its one level, you are put in a complex park(business i think its supposed to be) You navigate your way around a circuit killing what jumps up infront of you, and solving simple tasks like push this button and set fire to this which alerts the horde which you have to survive, just a basic simple level with all the treasure of a standard left 4 dead map, its over quickly but its semi-enjoyable. Death Abroad
An incomplete campaign that does look promising. From start to finish every level is brilliantly made and well thought out. 3 Levels out of 5, each with there own brilliant twist.

Level 1: Inside the prison, you have to navigate your way from the helipad on the roof of the prison out into the yard outside, with well placed panic attacks and lots to do, push buttons here and there, this campaign was my favourite out of the 4 i tested today, the sheer work put into it was brilliant and you can truely tell.

Level 2: Escape the prison, your now in the yard outside(well a room leading to the yard) you have to fight your way through the ex-cons now turned zombie and the mutalated guards, winding around on yourself, up down, left right, you eventually come out in a near by street, the safehouse located safely behind a huge steel door in a parking garage. You alert the horde by opening the door, you have no choice but to fight as the door takes ages to slide across, then its home free...thats if you survive.

Level 3: the Docks, you leave the saferoom which backs onto the docks, from a rusted old gate you can see your destination located hanging in a container, but its not quite as simple as just running across for it, you have to dip, dodge and dart your way through boat houses and sewers to get there, again with hordes trying to stop you, this makes for some great L4D game play.

Rank **** 4 | The sheer thought put into the levels is great, def one to play.

Resident Evil 3
Brilliant, Just Brilliant. For those that have played Resident Evil 3 will love this campaign, unfortunately because its a beta version it only holds one map, but you wont go far wrong with just the one map to tease you. Starts off where Resident Evil 3 starts off in the goods depo, and continues all the way through the streets to the Racoon City Police Department Building where the map ends. Custom Sound files to sound like the real thing from Resident Evil 3, Custom music. When the L4D editor gets released this mod will be big, tank/nemesis anyone? the only downside is the constant horde attacks, its on the infinite loop instead of strategically placed which is a let down as you really want to stop and look around for abit (you can if you turn the Director off) the buildings are exactly the same as the resident evil buildings, you would of thought you'd of been put straight into resi 3 instead of L4D. If you put the 3rd person cam on with the fixed 3rd person mode on, your in Resident Evil Land.

Another let down, because RE is an on the edge game series you can't match it with L4D, simply because the zombies arn't the classic RE zombies, they are the 28 days later zombies, but i'm sure with some tweaking and slow the speed down coding you could have a winner.

I'd like to see some skins put into the game, Hunter for a....well Hunter =D Skin the L4D hunter to look like the RE Hunter, it would be sweet, So here we go, my over all rating.
