BF2 just won't install

Not often i need help with a tech question, but, my BF2 will just not install. It's never done this before and i believe the issue was putting my Xonar D2 in.

It begins the install but about 75% the way through, the window just minimises to the start bar and won't maximise again.

I checked the program files, and they are all there. In fact, i can play BF2 1.0! However, when i patch, it gives me an error saying it can't find the install directory.

Any ideas?

could be a problem with the installshield. I would:

re-download the 1.41 patch from somewhere else.

do a full manual uninstall of BF2. and SF if you have that.

Right, i've narrowed down the issue. Having written the files to my computer, it tries to run "BF2VoiceSetup.exe" to configure the mic. However, this never appears.

Clicking the audio tab in game causes a crash.

Loading a game crashes when it gets to the sounds part.

Cheers, that seems to be roughly the same issue as myself. I tried installing with my onboard Realtek chip as default and it didn't work.

I'm going to fly through my programs/drivers and remove any old crap, try and bumpstart this thing into life!

Got her working. Had to disable the following options:

Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device
Give exclusive mode applications priority

I believe it's a feature only present on the Xonar D2. I got that fixed only to find i had a global GUID ban :p

Luckily, i got that fixed as well!

Ha, no. I used a different CD-Key. Apparently the one i had became leaked. Traced back to some guy in Canada using the same key and who had been hacking. Teaches me right for buying a game on ebay.
