Play against moose sometime. Every so often you'll come across his. Of course, if you do, it probably means you're about to be shanked.

But yeah, I've seen them on the ground, although so few people use it it's a rarity. You can destroy 'em just like a beacon.

Yup, always see it when playing against Moose. Other than that, seen it once or twice.

i see them several times a day, and i'm not talking about the ones i lay down. i bet a lot of people just overlook them. have you ever noticed a red diamond where an enemy has been spotted that just seems to hover? that's a decoy beacon. what's funny is my own team shoots mine all the time. they don't know it's mine, as opposed to an enemy. gotta say that i do enjoy knifing people in the back after they've tracked it down & are laying a full clip into it, in disgust that it's not a real target :P

it doesnt keep you safe from spots but any scanners will show up false positives if you are in the 50 metres range. if you are outside of it you and your beacon will show up if they are in a scanner. spotting still spots you out and not the beacon. also i have never seen a diamont above a ghost and i have seen laods.

It only works for the radar scans like UAV, sat track, and IDS I think. Commo rose spotting, heartbeat sensor, and Otus still work.

Personally i use it when a support or a commander is on the opposing team. But i rarely see someone else use it. So i have seen it, but not often...
The sniper decoy has a 60 meter radius and can also take away the hearthbeat sensor. Those flying squadlocks however has spotted me while I have used the decoy. You can also be spotted (but not by a commander i think)

I saw a few in the early days of Northern Strike but can't remember the last time I came across one. When I play as recon I almost always pack one.

Knifing people in the back as they creep up on my beacon is too much fun. I also like to mine it or lay it on top of a fuel crate. You'd be surprised how many times people will shoot at the beacon and kill themselves in the resulting explosion lolz

A downside is that any one who comes across it will shoot it wether friend of foe. If somone overhears the sound they will go out of their way to track it down so it would be handy if it had a friendly netbat icon.

it'd be nice if you were notified when it is destroyed.

Nope.

AFAIK there is no way to tell if the beacon is friend/foe so your teammates will destroy it if they see it. Also there is no warning if it is destroyed. Best bet is to place it somewhere it can't be found = example out of bounds of the map. You have to be careful because if you APM it it's likely your own mine will destroy it.

There is no exhaustive specs for it. I have a question concerning range. If someone is within IDS range of you but not the beacon - do you appear on his scan

nope. i have "tested" it in a random game. i found a ghost+sniper so i killed the sniper, and then the ghost. but before i found the ghost i saw the player had respawned. so i wondered if there were people to see but not spotted out. and that was not the case. so, it does not shows you if your ghost is in range, i think.
