An Open suggestion to EA/Dice Re: Timelines

    Dear EA/Dice,

As a long-time member of the PC gaming community, I'd like to give you a big piece of advice which may save you headache in the future.

Unless you have substantial reason/information to provide details for a particular game, please do so without mention of an estimated release date.

Two companies that have perfected this approach are Epic Games as well as ID software, they've coined the term 'when it's done'.

Battlefield heroes, open beta available summer of 08, release shortly after wards.
-It's now Feb. 2009, no open beta, no real legitimate information released

Battlefield 2 1.5 patch, patch beta testing at end of december, patch release for early 2009. As mentioned, it's February, and no patch in sight.

Now it's clearly not the end of the world if neither of these items ever come out, I just have a bit of an issue with statements being made approximating time lines, only for those time lines to be disregarded completely.

So my suggestion to EA/Dice, unless you're announcing a firm date on a release/product, please refrain from mentioning ANY kind of date or time frame.

I'd rather know that it'll come out 'when its done', rather than the time line being passed, no new relevant information coming forward, and then wondering if the dev team is playing online poker all day.

That's my suggestion, don't take it as hate towards EA/Dice, it's just a little annoying when dates are thrown around without regard.

The DICE guys occasionally post here.

Protip for DICE: You can't push back the release date if you never set one.

I completely agree with the OP.

When I read that a 1.51 patch was on the way for 2142 I thought - cool, get a few rounds in over Xmas with a new map.

Now here we are and there is no news on when/if/ever this patch is going to hit. They arouse interest and then leave people wondering for months on end and by that time people will be - ****, I waited nearly a year for this buggy crap.

Put up or shut up and whatever happened to the 'community manager'

I don't see why they bothered announcing dates for release. That just puts them under more pressure. They really should have said nowt.

Must be frustrating but I'd take it as sign something is good and being made better, would have thought there'd be news on both fronts soon™.

Here's a simple idea...when you give a date, make sure you can meet it. If for some unforeseen reason you can't meet your given date, give a heads up to your customers with an explaination. Just a thought.
