Can not connect to online service?

Whenever I try to logon to the MP portion of the game it gives me the "Can not connect to online service" error. Also, whenever I try to create a profile, it eventually comes up with the same thing...

No, firewall is running (The only provided fix on the CoD website), so I have no idea what could be causing this.

Also, I cannot install the patch because apparently my game is not valid... when it is. I even entered my key code in the options a second time...

What the heck is going wrong?

Man Kyle, it sounds like you have a more serious problem overall with the patch thing. That may be what is causing your connection problems as well as creating your profile.

Have you played online yet at all? It almost sounds like a file is corrupt or something has been altered.

A cheap trick that worked for CoD4 was reinstalling the CD key. There is an option in the main menu in CoD5 also that will let you reenter the key. Might try that.

I said I did that, I mean... I'll try it again, but I've already tried that, and I tried re-installing. Neither have worked so far.

And no, I've never played the game online.

When you say the game is not valid, does it say it could not find a valid installation of CoD?

What spyware/antivirus software are you running?

Also, try this command in the console and see if this helps:

Yes it says it cannot find a valid installation of CoD.

At the moment? I'm running nothing but the normal windows security features and my firewall is totally turned off.

Nothing happened when I entered that command. I can't even create a profile name...

Nothing will happen visually. Actually, its \cl_maxppf 2

After you enter the command, see if you can create the profile.

Well I got the patch to work... But now I can get to the "Creating Profile..." notification like I did before... Except it goes on forever, instead of stopping to tell me it can't connect.

And you were able to get to the create a profile part or were not able to? It seemed like you meant to say can't, but you said can. Just clarifying.

I wonder if you downloaded a config, and manually put it in the correct location, if it would somewhat 'force' the game to recognize that a profile exists. If that would work, you could then manually change stuff. Obviously not ideal, but it may be worth a shot.

-Reinstall

-Punkbuster Update
-Sound Drivers Update
-Gfx Drivers Update
-Firewall/VirusScan/Windows Security/Windows Firewall etc, not just turned off, but the process completely closed. The application is not open.
-If you have Vista, I turned off almost all of my security b/c they made it a nazi program like a Mac, ty Windows...fail. So, I was just wondering if underneath your game screen, the "Windows Administrator's Approval" window might be popping up.

Have you ever been able to create a profile, or am I misinterpreting? I know you said you've never been online. So, that doesn't work when first installing the game, or after the patch, or both?

No Vista, I'm using XP. I know the firewall isn't blocking it because its turned off.

I have not been able to make a profile before, and I haven't been able to connect to the "online services" at all. I tried opening up the ports on my router but that didn't do anything.

All my drivers are updated (Gone over this before a few threads down)

-Tried reinstall
-Tried CD key
-Tried PB Update

What router do you have and version of code its running?

Just about everyone that had this problem, in the end, it was SOMETHING blocking communication with the servers. For some it was antivirus, others it was software firewalls, some hardware firewalls, and some did a firmware upgrade or changed their firewall and it started working.

It's a WRT54GS Lynksys. I'm still confused as to why every other game would work and not WaW.

New patch coming in probably about 24 hours, hopefully it fixes your problem!

Yeah, you might try the new patch Kyle before doing anything else.

Treyarch confirmed there was a problem with certain "popular" routers with what version they were and communicating with the master server. They never said what that router was though. It may be a firmware update on your router may resolve the issue.
