Node Graph out of date/ ai disabled

I've just started playing my legal copy of HL2, which came with the Orange Box, but at every new level it says "Node graph out of date", and after dying for the first time, all the ai was disabled and ai disabled constantly shows up on the screen. A little searching suggests that this only happens to pirated versions, so I'm a little confused as to why I'm affected, and wondered whether there is any fix available.

I would suggest reinstalling.

Are you on a 64bit OS? try putting

-32bit

in the launch settings

Well a reboot seemed to sort it out, having already repaired the installation, tried restarting the game etc.

also bringing down the console and typing "aidisable" to re-enable the AI worked for me - at least on x64
