    What'd Make a Good FPS?

I noticed that in every FPS, there are certain things that make a game awesome, but certain things that would make a game crap. So, what qualities would make a game very good?

For me, a good game would have the multiplayer of BF2 (64 players, centralized server browser, etc.), the singleplayer of Far Cry 2 (open-endedness), and the moddability and graphics of Crysis.

What qualities, in your opinion, would make a very good FPS?

BF2 but with better graphics, better physics, bigger maps, more players-per-server, more vehicles, and more weapons.

      So hopefully.... "BF3"

Hmmm, i'm not sure servers with more players on appeals to me. I always liked to up close battles with a max of 32 players. Led to more teamwork i found.

It would be cool if a multiplayer game had some way to compell people to engage in teamwork. Except, some realism would have to be sacrificed. And, I wouldn't support forcing people to engage in teamwork, because sometimes I like to go lone-wolf.

I find BF2 does those things. You engage in team work by throwing down medic bags, ammo bags and reviving people, even if you do those things just for the points. It's team work without even realising it. Plus, realism is sacrificed just like you said... people can be shot in the head and still get revived lol. Even when you go lone wolf/sniper in BF2 any kills you get helps your team win since as soon as that person respawns, their team loses 1 ticket.

Team work doesn't necessarily mean talking to people over VOIP and setting up a plan.

That kinda contradicts the whole generalized meaning of team work... "working in a team".. Being a lone sniper (even if you add to your teams score) doesn't rule as team work. Team work is taking flags as a strong hold imo, otherwise you could just conclude that anyone who isn't TK'ing and idling a team player.

Good teamwork is squading up and strategically placing ur snipers, medics, supports etc where they will best serve you as a team, not just running off and pwning as many n00bs as you can.

Either way I preffer playing alone.

BF2/2142 style gameplay with more people and larger maps (small infantry style density/combat but with larger maps so vehicles have room too), more vehicles, CoD4 physics (penetrable walls, etc), INDOOR/OUTDOOR MAPS, squadplay/commander style of BF2142 (nothing beats that).

Basically, the next in the BF series (if it ever does come to fruition) will be the best FPS ever.

Mod/SDK tools that are well documented and supported. Being able to extend the game beyond it's original design is a huge plus for the FPS genre.

One thing I found cool about the Xbox was that everyone had a microphone, since it comes with Xbox Live. Although it didn't add much to gameplay, in most situations, it made multiplayer more fun. Everyone's smack talking or joking around or something. In a lot of multiplayer games for the PC, only a few people seem to have a mic.

I plan on becoming a game designer someday, perhaps as part of a more independent team, where I might not need a Computer Science degree (I'm shooting more for a Computer Science minor...a major would be too rough). I know some C++ and today I'm starting a Java class today. The reason why I say this, is because I'd keep some of these things in mind.

It would be nice if everybody had a mic. And I don't know why people complain about people using mics on xbox live... can't you just mute them? I know sometimes in CoD4 (PC) someone will think it's a good idea to play their guitar over the mic but really they just suck so I just simply mute them.

BF3 should come with a mic, doesn't have to be anything fancy but it would definately add to the success of the game if everyone was working together properly.

-Realistic movement in conjunction with controls
(Meaning that when you look to your left really fast, your character moves realisiticly and there is some blur, as some others like weapon movement delay)

                              -Realism all over
                              (Vehicles, Graphics, Health/gun system)

                              -Huge Replayability
(A game that even before you sit down at your computer, you can almost hear it calling your name)

-And a system for online servers
(one of the reasons why i cant stand CS:S sometimes, every server has a different sound file and map that you need to download...just give me a gun and some servers and im golden)
