    Cod4 smoke lag

    Hi,
I get a smooth fps of 80+ in COD4 @ 1440x900, all high, 2xAA but when I enter smoke it drops down to like 25-30 and lags a lot. Any ideas?

    PC Specs:
    Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4ghz
    4gb ram
    750gb hd
    8800gt 512mb
Driver: 180 (something like that, the newest one)
    Vista

Smoke causes FPS drop anyway. You can try tweaking FPS settings with console commands, if you havent done that. You can also turn off AA and smooth smoke edges in the options.

    Those may help some.

Turning smooth smoke edges helps a lot. You won't really notice unless you actually try and see the difference.

But smoke always sucks in games for your fps.

r_dof_enable 0 (Disables depth of field)
com_maxfps 125 (Increases the FPS limit)
snaps 30 (Dont know if this works in WaW, in CoD4 it helped me a lot. Has to do with server information)
              cl_maxpackets 100
sm_enable 0 (Turns off some shadowing)

You have to play with these a bit and see what works best for you. It depends on your PC, video card, and internet connection.

Depth of field is in the options I think.

Try draw_decals 0 or something like that, it makes the map look cleaner too if you like it that way.

In COD4, that's correct, it is right there in the menu options. It was removed in COD:WW, so I think a lot of us got used to automatically thinking about having to adjust that in the console/config.

This will improve frame-rate, but be aware that a lot of servers will kick for having decals set to 0, so use it at your own risk.
