I am just wondering if anyone knows how to run WaW in windowed mode?

It should be similar to what worked for COD4, so you have a few options...

a) try putting this into the console while in-game, exactly as written:
/seta r_fullscreen 0

b) open up your config_mp.cfg file, and change the appropriate line to (with " " marks):
seta r_fullscreen "0"

c) add this to the end of the target line on your desktop MP game shortcut:
+r_fullscreen "0"
