No sound - Emu 1212m sound card

I have an Emu 1212m sound card in my pc. This is the only game I've played so far where the sound doesn't work. The emu is primarily a pro audio card not really used for gaming, but this is the first problem I've had. If I go to youtube, pause a video, and minimize it... I have sound and the game plays fine!? I've tried turning off the hardware acceleration with no dice. Does anyone have any other suggestions so I don't have to do the youtube thing?

Sounds like the game isn't invoking the sound card for output. Can you select the primary output device the game will use?

I'm not sure how I would go about doing that. In windows it is set as the primary (only) device used for any sound related. I'm not sure on how to check just for the game though. I will have to play with it more when I get off work today. If anyone has any more suggestions though?
