2142 Causes a Reboot

Hello,

I had recently received a copy of Battlefield 2142 and patched it up to 1.50, but it always reboots when I attempt to join a server. Single player works just fine. I'm not sure what the problem is, as I've had the exact same problem with Battlefield 2 when that was installed on this computer.

Info on my comp:

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
3gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3
DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

You may be able to disable the reboot by right clicking on My computer, select properties, advanced, startup and recovery settings, and untick the automatically restart box. It may still restart if it is a PSU or overheating issue, but you may get a blue screen with some info if you're lucky.

There could be a million reasons why your PC is rebooting. Any information is helpful. This guy is trying to help you so just give him any information he asks for.

also try to run in windowed mode. this causes less crashes and gives more often a crash report. to run in windowed mode change in the shortcut: +fullscreen 0 instead of +fullscreen 1.

try this... as 1.50 is very buggy....

uninstall bf2142
restart PC
install bf2142
Patch to 1.40
Install Northern Strike if owned
Patch 1.40 again
Patch to 1.50 using the upgrade patch

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be offensive or sarcastic towards him.

It turns out, Natt's advice let me find the problem. The minidump told me it was a problem with my sound drivers, so I updated those and the game works fine now. I can't help but be surprised that audio drivers would cause a reboot like that.

haha there was a point where changing a sound setting made you have no sway on all your guns ... believe me expect the unexpected with battlefield lol

I remember that! It only worked randomly in my other rig that had a Asus sound card that came with the motherboard installed lol.

was rampant in esl games i believe i only found out about it like a few days before 1.50 lol
