Battlefield 2 wont start. XP 32-bit

Hey,

I recently bought Battlefield 2 the complete collection. I installed everything and followed the instructions carefully. I installed the v1.41 patch.

When i try to load up the game the screen goes black and when i press the windows button the taskbar shows the battlefield 2 version i am running and a window that says "Error" i cannot open or view this window.

The game will not load up at all.

Anyone know if i can fix this? Thanks.



System: AMD Athlon x2 2.2Ghz

Windows XP media center service pack 3

1GB of ram

Nvidia Geforce 8800GT running on the latest drivers.

It could be a driver problem, as the last few nvidia drivers have not worked well with battlefield. Try the omegadrivers, they are a few months old so should be ok.
If you still get the error, try running the game in a window by right clicking on the shortcut, select properties and change +fullscreen 1 to +fullscreen 0 in the Target box.

I have this exact same problem running a 9800GT on XP. I have updated to omega drivers & tried the cmd line thing & still does the same?

What could be causing this?

Nvidia Geforce 8800GT running on the latest drivers.

That could be your problem, a lot people complain about the 180 drivers. Personally I use the 179.14 it runs very well.

Ive tried omega 169 drivers & that doesnt seem to work so may be ill try these

ok good luck with that. If you still have problems you should always try re-installing the whole game, just in case.

seems this issue is not only a xp x64 problem as i first thought.

im not thinking this is a graphics driver issue as i can't find anywhere on the net reporting this same error!

it'd be great to find a fix for this

try run as admin after right clicking, also try UAC

I have the same problem...I have had the game for some time now and it "was" working fine. My system is not as new, AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 Dual Core Processor, 2.5GB RAM, Dual NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 (SLI). I am liquid cooled so there are no heating issues. I was running 175.19 and the issue started happening a couple of days ago, so I updated the video driver to 181.20 and still get the mystery "Error". I can run BF2142 perfectly fine, the issue seems to be isolated to BF2. Other games that run perfectly are Crysis, COD4, NFSUC, MS Simulator X....and of course all Steam games.

Hope someone finds a fix!

OK...right click the Launcher Icon for BF2 and change the last variable from "+fullscreen 1" to "+fullscreen 0"

This showed me what the error was...it is saying I am not running the latest version of Drectx 9.0c. But here is the thing.... I AM!

If you stick in the game CD and run the "Easy Info" it shows you if there is a compatibility issue of some sort....well my Directx test showed "PASS"

So something else is messed up....someone help!
