Need help knifing, and pistol kills

Which maps are best for knifing (other than knife / pistol only servers) ? I have finally decided I need to get those last two badges, which I tried to get over and over months ago, but eventually gave up on. I usually find when I try to knife that I hear the chink off the enemy armor, and then he turns around and unloads a full clip into my head. The knife seems to be programed in a peculiar way; if you are too close, you miss, if you are out of arm's reach (ie. in what looks like it is way too far for a knife to hit anything), you hit. It seems you have a better chance of a knife kill if you think of it as a small pistol as opposed to a knife and swing when you are about 10 feet away.

Any tips appreciated. I can't tell you the number of guys I have killed who have tried to knife me. Not that I am a great player, but I have heard the chink countless times and always laughed when I blew their heads off thinking, "why bring a knife to a gun fight?". One guy even lay on top of me when I was a sniper, and I heard the chink over and over. Finally when I made my shot, I got up, pulled out an RDX, dropped it, and blew him up, all the while he was swinging madly away. That is one of the reasons I haven't been too keen on trying to get this badge..... I don't wanna be that guy.

    It is called, Dedication Rounds

Simply what you have to do is dedicate a whole round to either knifing or pistoling.

My advice is go Support, so you can have ammo. Them pistols run out fast sometimes, and just go on a frenzy. After a few rounds you might get a groove going.

My best round with pistol only was....27. Somewhere there.

Or just hop on TLL server, pistol only.

The easiest string of knife kills are on the Titan deck when the attackers are too pre-occupied to blow up the panels to watch their back. Often I've wiped out squads standing in front of one of the gangways being hold up by grenade spammers. Arms reach (60 cm=2 feet) is the best range for a knife kill, though I've seen knife kills over 5-6 feet...(lag?)

he said he doesn't want to go to a padding server....

really, you can get the knife badges on any map. but i think infantry based maps are the best. cebere landing, camp gibraltar tunis harbor, belgrade & fall of berlin should suffice. you can get them in titan, but only part of the round plays well to infantry style warfare...you can't knife a tank:hmm:

i've tried w/ all kits & have found that using the active camo is the best. you can get behind enemy lines easier & wipe them out from the back and/or sides. w/ any other kit you're 100% visible & more likely to be shot before reaching your target.

and YES you will get that chink sound & it's very, very frustrating. i've gotten as many as 8, yes 8 straight chinks on 1 player who was basically stationary. but that's just part of the game. if you have a good connection & computer, you may see less chinks.

if you're just looking for sheer numbers, use any tactic, regardless of how cheap (w/ the exception of padding). for instance...keep an eye on medics reviving piles of bodies. you can snatch easy tags as players are revived. find spots where there's lots of action. you're more likely to grab tags where players are bunched together & sometimes, several players in a row.

        good luck DD

Padding servers defeat the purpose of getting the badges. It mostly just takes a lot of practice. Then more practice.

Try to keep to servers where you have a really low ping, that will help with misses.

The most important thing, I think, it to only knife when you have a good opportunity. Don't just rush around a corner and try to knife the first guy you see. Rather, try to sneak behind a squad, a few snipers lined up towards the back of a map etc. Then you can pick them off easily because they'll be less likely to expect someone where they are at.

Large, dense servers can be a problem because while you're knifing one person, someone else might notice you and pick you off from a distance even before you make a kill. Try to go after secluded people if you're not confident you can take care of other people in the area.

The other method, which I don't like much, is what I'd call the kamikaze method; you rush around a corner (or something) towards a full squad or more and try to get a few kills in the confusion. It usually scores you at least one or two kills. Yes, you'll die, but as long as you get one kill, and have gotten a normal kill somewhere else, it won't really hurt your k/d ratio either.

The best knifers I know, off the top of my head, are probably Namakan and Cicchetti. If you can stick with them, you'll probably pick up some good techniques. I know Namakan doesn't really play that much anymore, but I'm not sure if Cicchetti is even still around or not. :p

Yeah, I agree you on the "why bring a knife to a gun fight?", and the best part is that most of the time the guy you just owned is gonna be bitching why you dint get your knife out hahaha. I only use my knife when I know I can get a sure kill, and always wield the knife at the last possible moment.

The "chink" noise always seems to happen when you try to rush the NME with your knife. Since I almost never do that stupide mistake I get sure kill 9/10 of the time.

Re: Need help knifing, and pistol kills

Like moose said, you can get several chinks off of a completely stationary player. It is frustrating, but it is part of the game. Once you play a few rounds dedicated to knifing you will get the hang of it and it will be like second nature. It's all about catching people off guard and being sneakier than them. Always do what is unexpected. Sometimes this includes running out in the open and slashing people in the face. I have taken out entire squads without using active camo at all because there was so much chaos around that they did not realize what was going on.

I also think that recon is good for the pistol badge. You can take someone's health down a good amount with your rifle and then finish them off with the pistol. Or you can use the same active camo tactic that moose mentioned for knifing and sneak up behind people and aim for the head. The trick with the pistol is to aim first, then spam the trigger. You have a pretty good chance at taking someone down if you just spray a bunch of bullets at them, even if they are firing back with an AR. Not very good for crowd control, but it works.

Just like any other weapons, the main thing is all about practice. Once you get the hang of the nuances of the knife and pistol you can become an expert with each.

Try to be on the EU Side, the Piera is much more powerful than the Takao.

Prone and scope when you shot, the Pistol never loses accuracy (But make sure you iron sight before you prone)

Try doing it on a Titan map or Cerbere/Gib Low pop.

IMO Titan is the best for knifing because everyone is so concerned with the Titans they never watch their backs.

(This is the one place where the NS Unlock for Recon is WAY useful, set it ontop of the back and it'll lead you to more than a few knife kills)

Re: Need help knifing, and pistol kills

I've been away from BF for a few months, but have just purchased 2142 and look forward to trying it out with some friends.

As to knife and pistol success, I'll tell you what worked for me in BF2.

Don't use your primary weapon when a knife or pistol will work - in other words, when you come upon someone who doesn't know you're there, don't be trigger happy and blast them. Take a deep breath, pull our your K or P and take them out. You'd be surprised how this helps your stats.

Also - particularly for the knife - hang out in the areas where you know snipers are prone to set up. Always be on the lookout for the random player that is just standing there doing nothing - dude is probably in the bathroom back home. Kill him anyway.

For pistol, hiding is key. If you run around with your pistol as your primary weapon, you're going to get owned. Do a lot of hiding and setting on choke points and ladders -places you know guys will go. I once killed the same guy 10 times trying to climb the same ladder.

And keep in mind that the knife and pistol badges require a lot of luck so keep trying. It's frustrating, but eventually you'll get there.

zeller + pistol will get u lots of kills even at long range as rifle puts em down to 10 mealth and 1 pistol round will ill them then

as for knifing as has been said be sneaky and unpredictable

Ok, I'll try that. I have the ghost. Where is a good place to set it down? I was thinking of sticking it in Corridor 2 facing the entrance in that little bit beyond the door where guys wait to shoot the enemy in the back. Then I would hide behind the crates on the main floor between corridor 1 and 2.

It depends on whats going on in the Titan, use your better judgement.

Sometimes setting it behind the walls in the corridor works cause everyone thinks theres someone there, tries to nade "You" and you can just get free knife kills =).

Sempf : No one would try and go ONTO the Titan shield to get you :/
