BF2 xp x64 startup issue

Hi All,
i came across an issue the last few time ive tried to run bf2 on my xp x64 install.

2142 runs fine and i have the latest drivers for my hardware.

bf2 installs fine, yet when i go to run it the screen goes black and i get the exclamation noise and an extra window on my toolbar which simply says 'error!'

i am unable to view the information in the error window on screen and can only either windows out/start taskmanager and end it or just press esc, which send me back to desktop

this really has me as it used to work and now just dosent. any help from you guys would be more than appreciated.

If you know your password, delete/move/rename the Battlefield 2 folder in My Documents and see if the game starts. If it does retrieve your account.

thanks mate, i think that only resolves issues after initial login.

i shud mention that ive 2 copies of bf2 (1 complete collection/1 normal) and the same happens on both and on a previous install of my OS this install is 14 days old and everything else works a treat.

i get the splash screen then the black screen and error. i have also tried setting custom resolutions to no avail :shakehead:

I have XPx64 and no problems. check the XP event log and see if you can find anything:

right click on 'my computer' > manage > event viewer.

I have the same problem...I have had the game for some time now and it "was" working fine. My system is not as new, AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 Dual Core Processor, 2.5GB RAM, Dual NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 (SLI). I am liquid cooled so there are no heating issues. I was running 175.19 and the issue started happening a couple of days ago, so I updated the video driver to 181.20 and still get the mystery "Error". I can run BF2142 perfectly fine, the issue seems to be isolated to BF2. Other games that run perfectly are Crysis, COD4, NFSUC, MS Simulator X....and of course all Steam games.

Hope someone finds a fix!

OK...right click the Launcher Icon for BF2 and change the last variable from "+fullscreen 1" to "+fullscreen 0"

This showed me what the error was...it is saying I am not running the latest version of Drectx 9.0c. But here is the thing.... I AM!

If you stick in the game CD and run the "Easy Info" it shows you if there is a compatibility issue of some sort....well my Directx test showed "PASS"

So something else is messed up....someone help!
