and for the life of me cant remember if it is possible to in single player create squads and call in artilary strikes and crate drops can someone please refresh my memory

Urm yea it is, just the same as MP, if you want arty you have to be a squad leader and call it in for it to show up on the commander's map (they must accept or deny the arty request)

heres somthing that is in singleplayer that aint in the multi format: The TV
missle view screen for the attack helos in singleplayer have two guide squares
in the center - that aint the case in multiplayer!
