Why I hate mandatory squad servers

Look at the amount of people in each squad...

Re: Why I hate mandatory squad servers

Most of the time when I play I do my own thing. 90% of the other players do stupid things that piss me off so I keep to myself. However I always join a squad because the MOST ANNOYING thing in the game is being teamswitched in the *** end of the round because the losing players are all quitting the server.

I always join the squad with the most players. Even if I am not running with that squad they will still benefit from having me on their team because I always spot enemies. If they are good I will stick with them.

I can't see any benefit from not being in a squad.

I doesn't hurt to be in a squad and sometimes you actually end up with some squadmates who know what they're doing. That is always the most fun on pub servers.

I usually create a squad called "teamwork" or "voiponly" and that usually attracts people who are willing to follow my orders.

Plus, if its a semi-full large server eventually the squads will fill up at least a little bit.

I myself don't mind joining a squad, it's a chance for better teamwork and an extra spawnpoint. But when people are forced to join squads, they take up valuable squad positions that could be better used for real teamworkers. I don't know what's worse, a team full of lone squad leaders or people in full squads that just run off to do their own thing.

Spotting enemies will help the team even if you're lone wolfing. Might as well try and stick with them. Generally if the squad tries to stick together, I will too, but if they're scattered all across the map with no orders, I give up.

I almost invariably create my own squad unless I know there is an existing squad that includes most of my buddies. More often than not, other squads never give orders, so I stopped even trying to look for one.

In the rare event I get an asshat without VoIP who is hellbent on tirelessly rejoining the squad even after I kicked him multiple times, I lock the squad.

Yes, but even if you don't agree with the squad's direction, there are still quite a few benefits of joining one. Otus red diamonds, squad members spotting, calling for ammo/medkit is almost always more efficient from a squad member, and the best of all, as mentioned above, not getting team-switched at the last second when the losers from the other team all bolt the server.

            DD.

I wish I could say that the average squad had some coordination...

But more often than not, I find orderless squads to have, quite literally, one member fighting in Paris and another in Moscow. Zero coordination, zero strategy and zero support.

Squads with an order but no VoIP, sometimes you can get them to chatter with a simple mike check, but it's sort of a mixed bag. At times, people acknowledge what I say even though they don't have a mike, so they make best do with the commo rose. Other times, it's as if they are completely deaf and mute.

I found SLing to be the best of all worlds. :) I have a direct contact with my CO (which can be good and bad in a way!) I get to call the shots on my SMs and best of all, I have control over who gets in the squad and who does not. If I see someone obviously not doing his job, I can simply kick him away and wait for someone more competent to show up. I know myself to be quite trigger-happy with the squadkick button and I fully assume the consequences. If I can't get a cohesive squad together, then I'd rather work alone instead of in the presence of liabilities.
