    Bridge at Remagen Balance Issue

After a long break I re-installed last week to have a few more rounds of 2142. Playing mostly the new maps and NS.

The balancing in 2142 is pretty good - there's no one technique to totally dominate a game other than having the skill to do so, or so I thought.

Yesterday I was on Bridge and there was a clan that took control of the sole air transport. They did the whole transport of death deal with engineers on board fixing and dropping motion mines, gunners raping infantry and the pilot healing on board.

At first I wasn't too concerned and just got on with capping flags but they quickly became an annoyance hovering overhead and dropping MM's on my walker. I decided to take them down.

But, EMPing with the walker second seat seemingly had little effect. I would EMP them and fire the gun at them but they just flew away repaired and came straight back. Same deal with stationery Rorsch - they would fly out of range and repair then come back and gun the sXXt out of the Rorsch pilot. The SAAW was next to useless as well.

As you can imagine this was EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. Especially with the constant trash talking from these biatches over chat. "We Rock", "Die Noobs" and such. Eventually they wore down our tickets and looked like a certain win for their team. The pilot had over 275 points, no kills and no deaths. The only sweet thing in all this is that when we got down to 20 odd tickets, the server crashed

Anyone been on the receiving end of this tactic and is there a way to counter it.

You can counter it but basically you need your whole team working together and how often does that happen?

It's pretty sweet doing it yourself even if it's rare. You could call it unbalanced but is teamwork overpowered? You could argue that you shouldn't be able to repair it in flight but you rarely see this so it's no biggie imo

I know what your saying but on B@R there is only one transport and no gunship so if a clan manages to get the transport they cannot be taken down and can effectively win the round from the air with no risk. To begin with I reasoned that if they were in the air they wouldn't have enough effect on the game to affect the outcome. However they could decimate any troop on the ground from range wether in a Rorsch or not, destroy or stop any armour moving and make short work of the Goliath.

Like you say getting any kind of coordination on a PUB server is hard but at one point we had 3 walkers and a SAAW at the entrance to the bridge all locked onto this transport. Firing SAAWs and EMPS and guns and all the pilot had to do was simply fly away.

Surely even a transport should be affected by numerous EMP hits such that it should lose control.

I even resorted to teamswitching with a PILUM and trying to destroy the thing from inside it. That didn't work, maybe RDX would

You can't beat it easily without a gunship (where you can go for a tv missile and the game is over), and you certainely can't beat it without at least another team member helping. EMP impact effect is weird on air vehicles, sometimes it... doesn't work. Put simply.

Teamswitching with RDX normally does the trick

Tell engineers to bring out SAAWs. I see 3 is sufficient. 4 Saaws can bring me down in a gunship [and I ain't no newbie flying brick]. Transport is slow so they can't avoid all 4 at once.

Engineers on board cannot repair that fast and with luck; you can even shoot them out of the transport with SAAW. I got saawed out of the gunship before; funny as heck.

Your situation is very rare so don't worry. Most people park the darn thing by building edge and use depressive fire on targets.

I love that map; clan was driving Goliath and I was in the rear machine gun seat; slept through the whole thing lol. Woke and found me got my vehicle badge. Hahaha. Good way to earn NS vehicle hours in Goliath since it's so slow. Goood time to have a snooze.

Yeah - I'm not worried about it. I have finally sold the game so can't play anymore anyway. In the last week I was playing I saw this clan doing this a few times, they probably use this trick all the time to rack up massive points at no risk to themselves.

I just wondered if there was an effective method to take them down and presently I don't think there is. To take them down with the SAAW you would need three missiles hitting the ship at the same time to be able to destroy it. That would mean at least 3 SAAW users locking on to the ship, waiting for shields to be popped and then firing simultaneosly when they go down. They would be have to be out in the open which would leave them exposed to MG fire from the Transport and it would have to be out in the open long enough to maintain lock. The three missiles would have to hit at the same time otherwise the Transport would be repaired enough to survive.

            A tall order.

not true i once at of doomed on a sidi back in teh tau days , there were at least 5 saaws 2 aa rorsches and a walker of 2 and they just couldn't get us as the gunner ahhnihalates the saaw user as soon as he sees him and with rorsches, the saaws miss...alot, 2 hoffs on constant repair is almost invulerability and the walkers were nothing more than an annoyance. the only sure fire way to down one is a rocket spray followed by a nice tv dinner

or extreme teamplay, did you think maybe of double tving it with 2 hachi's?

No. Never even occured to me to use Hachimoto TVs. Good suggestion.

although you may need to park on a hill or something to get better elevation
