SLI problems

I just got another Nvidia 8600 GTS 512MB Overclocked card so i could do SLI. However eventhough I have two identical cards I see no change in the performance of my games. I enabled SLI on the Nvidia control panel and made sure that the cards were connected correctly. Is there anything im forgetting to do to get SLI working. I figured that with SLI i should be able to get much better performance out of my games. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I may be wrong but to my understanding SLI is only really helpful if you want to play at a very high rez.

SLI with 8600gts is jsut silly. You'll see no performance increase because of three reasons:

A: The 8600gts is already a rubbish card
B: SLI, like Tasty said only really helps at super high resolutions
C: SLI technology is vastly inefficient and buggy.

Sell both 8600gts's and upgrade to a proper gaming card.

But in your opinion what is the best to get for like 250-300, cause thats what im figuring i can get for those two cards.
