seems like this happens in most servers i play in, seems to me that none of the servers can stay up for more than an hour without one of these crashes, my question is why isn't this being fixed or even acknowledged and how is such "show stopping" bug present in a game this old? i know asking for updates and fixes at this stage is a bit odd, but it's pretty sad that servers can't stay online consistently at this moment.

Re: There is a problem with your connection server crash
I would love an answer. My experience in running servers over the past couple of years is that it is fairly random. We have had times where a server would run 36+ hours without a single crash, and other times where it would crash 3 times in the space of a couple hours. No rhyme or reason to it. I have heard all kinds of theories as to why it happens, the most likely being the communication between the server, gamespy, and EA's master server gets messed up and the server crashes and restarts. -
Re: There is a problem with your connection server crash
you think larger servers are more prone to this crash since they have to constantly be feeding master server info on so many players? cuz i always play on big servers and feel like i crash every 30 minutes.
did this happen before 1.4? i can only remember this starting to happen ever since the one patch they gave us highway tampa, i think that 1.4. from what i recall, the reason the beta patch lasted long was because of server stability issues. either that problem still remains or was never addressed.Comment

Re: There is a problem with your connection server crash
ya this happened before 1.4 as well. like skates said, it's random. there have been times where servers will crash within minutes of a previous crash & repeat the process a few more times. rarely are there actual "server" crashes. it's not so much the providers fault as it is an issue w/ EA & gamespy. the servers don't actually go down, the game just restarts. it's probably a coding error somewhere that will never be discovered. i think of it more like a ctd, not a complete crash. the server is probably trying to read some info somewhere that can't be translated & results in frustration to the players & admins alike.Comment

Re: There is a problem with your connection server crash
Sorry for ressurecting this topic, but I do have a "Your connection to the server has been lost" error, practically every few hours, no matter what server I am on, and I can be their just long enough to select what kit I want or do almost a full round, sometimes two, and bang it just goes "Connection to server lost" and yet, when I check, my 2142 says the server is still up and refuses to connect, until I restart the game
This a known bug, or do I have something blocking it, and I do swear I turned Win Firewall OFF on XPComment

Re: There is a problem with your connection server crash
your problem is different from mine. i get disconnected because the server goes offline. i know because the server is gone from the browser. the server restarts and later on i do see it in the browser almost empty.
your problem might be a firewall/router issue, you might have to open certain ports on your router/modem.Comment

Re: There is a problem with your connection server crash
i have the same problem as LBraden, but i tested it without a firewall running and i still would get disconnected. i am not sure about the router configs as i cannot look them up from my pc. if you log out and log in again you can join the server a lot of times, but sometimes a restart of the game is the only way to go.Comment

Re: There is a problem with your connection server crash
This always happens on Moongamer's Tampa server, which is lame because most players won't bother to try to repopulate the server right after a crash, and by the time it does get around to getting repopulated, the server crashes again.
I don't remember the last time the TRR or NfB servers have crashed while I was playing on them, so maybe this is something that's more prone to happen on 64 player servers? (Are they maybe trying to sabotage 64 player servers due to the low player limit on the new games? </tinfoilhat>
) Had it happen to me the other day on Tampa, where my game froze for about 15 seconds, then about a half minute after that I get the 'problem with your connection' message and a drop to the server browser, but the server didn't actually crash. I rejoined and it autospawned me as assault with no unlocks at a random base and then immediately suicided me.

Re: There is a problem with your connection server crash
You might want to ask TG about how they run their servers. Since they aim specifically for a long-lasting server uptime, they know a thing or two about what sort of operation or behavior increases the likelihood of a crash.Comment

Oh yeah, that's right. So as long as I continue to stink the place up all should be well. Luckily, that's my forté. :thumbsup:Originally posted by DDoubleVVisionRemember Wolf, TRR only crashes when you are on and playing well.

Re: There is a problem with your connection server crash
Okay to sum up quickly
1) Only had this problem since I started replaying BF2142 a few weeks ago
2) I have a new and better PC
3) My ISP has changed, I am on Sky Broadband, 8Mb line
4) I am now using Zone Alarm Pro, so if anyone can inform me how to fiddle with that program to make sure that BF2142 is working properly, PLEASE tell meComment
