well i was a regular on bf2 for a while and then my vid card crapped out on me, im not sure what brand it was, it happend a while ago but i know it was a 128mb.

i was then given a NVIDIA Quadro4 900 XGL another 128mb, i've downloaded the drivers for it and the game wont load past the splash screen. it goes black and flickers then goes back to desktop so i just want to know if i need to get a better vid card or if theres a fix for it.

If Bf2 wasn't completely uninstalled from last time, it is probably still setup for your old card. You will need to open with notepad every video.con file you can find in Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default and 0001, 0002 etc and edit the relevant line to read VideoSettings.setResolution 800x600@60Hz.
You should then be able to start the game and set the resolution in video > options.
If that doesn't work, delete the battlefield 2 folder in Documents to completely reset the game and retrieve your account, then redo all of your ingame audio, video, controls, general, settings.

i went to that site and it says my video card is not strong enough.. i ordered a 512mb from the site it recommmended.

Buying a video card based on RAM is like buying a car for how shiny it is. You can put 4GB in a computer with an Athlon64 3000+ and it is still slower than a faster (Core 2 Duo or Phenom) processor with 2GB memory. Keep that in mind.
