    Mod Trailers, Why oh why...2

Homepage for Total Gaming Network and CS-Nation. Get the latest video game news, previews, and reviews on a daily basis.

This was a valid thread, stupid admin closes it because they were proved wrong... FFS same old crap, different day.

Lets leave this open this time ELXX, it goes beyond you and your ego, people wearn't finished replying, this is a forum where people like to discuss and debate things, we can't have you on a power trip closing everything now can we...

Again i'll say, they've chosen a brilliant person to become an admin here... nice and immature, just what this place needs...

I sure as hell hope you can't Ban people elxx, or i'm straight out of here, along with anyone else who questions you...

Where were we before we were so very rudely interupted by the child...

I want that... Yes a trailer is to show off the content in the mod but when it makes the new content look crap then we have a problem and thats what 90% of the mod teams do.

EDIT:What i have seen in some videos: A Crap choice of music to go with the footage, Clips of the game slapped together making no sense, effects that just purely annoy folk, that are trying to make the video look remotely good.

Q.) Whats wrong with the above?
    A.) Everything.

Top Things to include in your trailer:

    Good Music
A Story, all good trailers have a story.
The Correct Effects For The Correct Scenes (Not aload of crap slapped together)
Finally some good footage (Properly edited ect...)

Ive said this to a few mod teams, they have a brilliant all time great mod and trailers that wouldn't sell heaven to a dead person. You gotta grip the hearts of the fans, most of the time 5 to 10 minutes of nothing, thats what you watch, would i want to download the mod if i didnt already know about it...hmm no... You can pile as much special effects in as you want, the end product will still look crap because theres no heart.

Usually Theres weeks left before the release of any great mod, thats more than enough time to create something spectacular. A Trailer needs a story, when you watch a movie trailer what do you see, you see snippets of the story building into something great and then they leave you on edge wanting more.

The original BF2 and BF2 special forces trailers, what were they? BF2, the PLA taking over the oil fields, thats a story unfolding there, what about BF2 SF, whats that, its the special forces group taking over the stronghold on devils perch, a story right there. Story is what you need, not aload of crap that makes no sense slapped together with some effects thrown in and a poor choice of music.

If mod teams, you just can't pull a good trailer off, let someone else do it, i know i'd do it, loads of good video directors would.

Don't let your brilliant mod look like a rusty shed.

Rather than take Bloodhound's criticisms personally, *cough* Rhino *cough*, maybe listen to what he's saying and you might discover that there is actually a point to what he's saying? To be honest, I wasn't at all impressed with the last few PR trailers (or promo's, whatever). I have yet to see the ones for FH, but I don't think it would take much to improve on the past few PR trailers.

To step aside from comparing PR trailers, there's Bloodhound's general point. If you take the time to make a mod, make a decent video to promote it! I've countless times offered to make a trailer/promo for PR, and never been taken up on the offer. Sure, I'm not top-notch, but I would have put more than a half-a$$ed effort into the project like the last few appear to have had.

If you put the time and effort into making a wonderful mod (like PR) - give that same attention and keep the same high standards for the trailer.

    [Rant]
Everybody takes every single word and phrase so damn literally now, and you all think that you're being singled out and attacked. Bloodhound's original point was legitimate, and it attacked nobody until people jumped in and acted offended. As for counter-arguments, I have to agree with Wizrd, the "because you can't do it, mine's good" argument is pointless. You have to make your trailers to a high enough standard to be appreciated, and you don't have to be a skilled movie maker to properly appreciate and/or criticize a video!

I dont remember seeing you ever comment that you could do a better job at making vids than our guys and offering to do stuff for us? got any examples of your work? Only vids I can see you've made are some simple frag videos of COD4 from your sig with a bit of editing? We are talking directing like 20 odd guys into doing seances you want that show off the gameplay, new features and content of the mod in the best way possible while also keeping in line with the mod's goals. Think you can handle that?

If so give me a PM, I would be interested to see if you can in fact make better videos than the current guys we have, since the v0.6, v0.7 vids where made by a coder who dosne't want to specialize in vids the only reason he did them is that we had no one else back then and v0.8 we tried out the Sir guys and the a new guy who is more of a editor than a director.

Thats just the thing, this isn't his forum, he's been an admin for 7 days, one whole week and already he's fubar'ing everything.

Because he has Sir. on his name, and he registered in 2005 makes him a good admin...

Hell ive been here just as long, just so happens i was a tad gobby in the earlier stages and was indeed banned... Re-registered in 2006, apologized and here we are today...

I respect all admins when they respect their own community which most do... I don't respect admins on a power trip.

But who am i to preach, ive been there, had a power trip myself, and learnt the hard way, which i'm sure elxx will...respectively. :salute:

Well, this whole thing started off poorly and then got personal. Rogue/Blood -- you've crossed the line in the last post and now you've broken a major forum rule by opening a new thread after it was closed by an admin.

If you wouldn't have been taunting and disrespectful, we could have had a convo.

See you after your temp ban expires.

Rogue, you made a good valid point in your original thread, but the way you went about it was horrible, saying that trailers made mods look like crap, you think they're crap, it's all crap, et cetera. That's why some people took it as an attack rather than constructive criticism.

I'll step out and let the other more experienced admins sort this out. Would that be okay with you, sir? I'm so sorry to have offended you

Rougewolf, the way you are responding to everyone is very disrespectful and is more of a your all wrong and I am right type of feeling when I read your posts. I would suggest you rethink the way your posts are viewed by others and turn it into more of a constructive criticism then a rant/bashing on others work.

As The Sir. Community, PR Team, FH2, and other mod teams have worked pretty hard to bring the community the best of mods, videos, and more and we should be shown more respect because of the work we have put into creating content along with any other mod team that has spent the time to release a promo, trailer or movie for everyone's viewing pleasure, and if you are going to complain please post trailers/promos that are good examples of bad, sloppy work and constructive criticism on how it can/could be improved.

Because they could leave the community with just a text description of their mod without putting in the extra hours to release videos containing the action, features, etc. that are involved in the mod.

.....i crossed what line? i didn't cross any line Sonic, please dont come here and blame me for the other thread closing, your a sorted guy and i'm wondering how you can condone elxx's actions. He didn't follow admin guidelines, he decided to abuse his power, he closed the last thread for all the wrong reasons, he did it to spite me, which as an admin you cant do. Well saying that this is TGN....its like an anything goes brawl here.

"If you wouldn't have been taunting and disrespectful, we could have had a convo."

If thats how you feel m8, fair enough, but i aint letting a perfectly good topic go to waste.

If i am banned, see you after, but personally speaking i have no reason to be banned.

As for replies regarding the thread been closed yes they will be arsey, but not im right your wrong, i dont understand where your getting that from dude...

Dude why, why? All these rant at me saying i'm taunting, and you come out sugar coated, are people reading your posts, or do they see the admin sign and cower in the corner. Yeh let them deal with it i can already see the way its panned out to be...

Rogue/Blood Your wrong, your always wrong, you always start arguements, we here at TGN will stick with admins so we are in the good graces, (Elder Admins Talking Now) We have no time for this, ban him, close the thread and send him on his way.

And Elxx your in your own little bubble...I never once said the mod trailers wer crap, i NEVER said they were crap, stop trying to dig up pure crud to make me look like an idiot.

No i wont post video's, i aint an a$$hole who singles people out to make a point, if i'm going to make a discussion about the video's in general, i'm not going to single one teams work out, everyone is involved, not just that one video, and to go through everyones video's saying if i PERSONALLY liked it would be a waste of my time.

I have never seen this, so he did not. There is also footage from Keyelite's movie in there - which I did the foley for.

No credit (at all) makes me unhappy, I think keyelite would say the same... It would be alright if there was a little message at the end saying "footage taken from XaliaS and Keyelite", but no.
As an admin, I think it's within my "guidelines" to call out idiots who show nothing but contempt for modders and movie directors like this.

                  "A Crap choice of music..."
"...the end product will still look crap..."
"Story is what you need, not aload of crap..."

You're pushing the excuse that you never explicitly stated that any specific mods or trailers were crap, but that's not what I was implying in the first place.

Re: Mod Trailers, Why oh why...2

Rogue, let me start out by saying our goal as admins is not to censor people. We have never had that outlook nor will we ever have that goal in mind. As admins, however, we are responsible to make sure that the forums we manage stay clean and respectful. At times we let things slide and at times we miss areas that should've been dealt with, but we can't be everywhere at once. I'll say right now though that I support Elxx in his decision. And don't just think that's cause he's on my staff, other people have now supported his decision as well as you can read from the other posts.

In your first post in this new topic you rant about Elxx and how he is on a power trip and he's immature. First off, Elxx is probably one of the most respected people in the BF community, and a majority of people would agree with that. Secondly, if you look at your behavior and the attitude in your posts, by no means should you be calling any one else immature. The way you went about creating a dupe thread and calling out an admin was immature. If you had a problem with the closing of the first thread, you should've come to an administrator such as myself so we can check out the issue. We don't look nicely upon new threads being created just because a previous one was locked. Next time, if there is another issue, please come to me if you have a problem and we can sort it out.

If you want to be negative about something, we don't mind, it's your opinion. All I ask if that the negativity is done in a constructive manner and not just outright bashing or looking to start a flame war. And if you have a problem with an admin, it should be dealt with in private. If you post it out in the public is honestly just makes you look worse.

                    Case closed...move along now.
