2gb vs. 4g

I am running

Core 2 duo 2.2
Radeon 4850
Seagate baracudda 32mb cache
windows vista 32-bit home premium


at the moment i have 2 gb installed. i cant max PR at a higher resolution then 1024. Will i notice a big difference upgrading to 4GB of RAM. ANd if so, will it allow me to crank my resolution up higher. I have every setting maxed besides lighting, dynamic lights, and dynamic shandows, which are all at medium. i just want to know iff ill notice difference with 4gb.

yes you should notice a big diffrence between 2gbs and 4gbs, a extra 2gbs wont cost that much as well.

get 64 bit os and it will run alot better too

Be aware that a 32-bits OS can not address the full 4 GB, just about 3,2.
A 64-bits OS can address the full 4 GB.

In some cases it can read up to 3.5 GB btw

But yeah you will notice a fairly big FPS increase if you're playing at a higher resolution.

64 bit also allows your cpu to run better, if you have a 64 bit cpu....

which i do. wish i knew about 64-bit OS when i got vista. but i dont wanna spend another 100$ on newegg ATM. so ill wait till taxed come back and drop 1000 on a Comp.

Just buy another 1gb so you have 3 for now, save up, get vista and a few more gb's in a while.

Won't that force his memory to run in single channel mode? Unless you want to buy 2x512mb, do they even make those anymore?

Just buy another of the same 2GB kit and use it, i think if windows doesn't use all the RAM it assigns to other places and eventually get used it think like VGA.

No, VRAM is part of the reason Windows 32 bit can't see 4gb of RAM, the VRAM on your graphics card counts toward the 4gb limit.

Either way, DDR2 is cheap, and 3.25 is still better than 2. :)

Heh is still have 2x512's (even if its 3 years old) im sure you can you still get it somewhere, but yeah, its worth just going with another 2 gb then getting Vista 64 at some point.
