8800 GTX SLI - Infinite Loop - Arrrrghhhhh

    Hi all,

Dunno if anyone can lend a educated hand with this issue, but really hope so....

BF2 crashes screen goes black I can hear the game but need to power down and restart every time, seems random.....

Have switched off sli and run on 1 card 1 monitor set up, updated drivers, bios and nothing seems to stop it.

This is part of the message,

"The driver nv4_disp for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop."

    Motherboard:
    CPU Type QuadCore Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2400 MHz (9 x 267)
    Motherboard Name MSI P6N Diamond (MS-7320) (2 PCI, 1 PCI-E x1, 4 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR2 DIMM, Audio, Dual Gigabit LAN, IEEE-1394)
Motherboard Chipset nVIDIA nForce 680i SLI
    System Memory 2048 MB (DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM)
    BIOS Type AMI (11/02/07)
    NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX (768 MB) x 2
    forceware driver 175.19

108: The driver nv4_disp for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.
System Information None 2008-10-08 20:25:57 Application Popup 26: Application popup: Windows - Display Driver Stopped Responding : The nv4_disp display driver has stopped working normally. Save your work and reboot the system to restore full display functionality. The next time you reboot the machine a dialog will be displayed giving you a chance to upload data about this failure to Microsoft.

if anyone can help I'd be very happy as it's now driving me nuts..... system is watercooled with 1000w psu.

Cheers master, i think i found the problem, clogged block on the cpu causing overheating, now in the process of a wc scrub & rebuild.

Heatsink/cooler clogged up with dust, I'm assuming.

I knew a friend with a very similar issue - try to reinstall the drivers - go back to older version and then upgrade.

It's the cpu water cooling block, the coolant that I was using was substandard (thanks to the folks at fluid xp, cheers guys!) and completely clogged the CPU heatsink. I'm waiting for new parts and will flush the system and rebuild it.....then I'll roll back the drivers if that doesn't work, cheers again.

Problem solved, updated drivers to 178.24 correctly, updated bios, nforce chipset drivers, disabled sli, uninstalled BF2 completely, cleaned registry using reg cleaner, reinstalled BF2, restart, installed patch 1.41, restart, works perfectly everything on high 8x aa.
