    Eve of Destruction™ v.2.0

    ================================================== ==========================

    No other military conflict is comparable to those dramatic years of the 20th century. Most rumors spread about the Indochaina and Vietnam War are not honest, even though it was the best documented war in history. No other military conflict was ever so controversial, pointing to an unloved fact: our enemy was not the only source of evil, the evil could be found within ourselves.

    The "Eve Of Destruction" mod is a tribute to the ARVN, Australian (Aussie), French, U.S., NVA and Vietcong soldiers who fought and died in Vietnam, and also to the Vietnamese people.

    It features a variety of weapons, brand new vehicles and diverse maps ranging from dense jungles to overgrown rice paddies. From the beginning of the French Involvement of the early 1950's through the US Involvement up until 1973. The mod strives to encompass the conflict within Vietnam.

    ================================================== ===========================

    Special Thanks go out to my Wife, Kelly, my kids along with my twin brother Jeff, (Rexalot) for their support in this project. Without it, this project would not have been possible.

    Many thanks also go out to the following people listed within this readme. These people are what made this mod what it is. Without their help. I might still be working to make this version 2.0 a reality. (Of course, I thank all the guys who have come and gone from the Mod team. (See the listing on the EoD Mod website) All these guys have contributed to the mod in some way, even if small and without their contributions. The mod would not be what it is.

    ================================================== ===========================

    TEAMS FOUND IN EVE OF DESTRUCTION

    ARVN - The Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) was a military component of the armed forces of the Republic of Vietnam (commonly known as South Vietnam).

    AUSSIE - Australia as an ally of the United States, with obligations under the SEATO and ANZUS Pacts sent ground troops to Vietnam and contributed material to the war effort.

    FRENCH - The First Indochina War (also known as the French Indochina War, the The Anti-French War, the Franco-Vietnamese War, the Franco-Vietminh War, the Indochina War and the Dirty War in France and in contemporary Vietnam, as the French War) was fought in French Indochina from December 19, 1946, until August 1, 1954, between the French Union’s French Far East Expeditionary Corps, led by France and supported by Bảo Đại’s Vietnamese National Army against the Việt Minh, led by Hồ Chí Minh and Võ Nguyên Giáp.

    NVA - The Vietnam People's Army (VPA) (Vietnamese: Quân Đội Nhân Dân Việt Nam) is the official name of the armed forces of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. During the Second Indochina War (Vietnam War) (1957–1975), the U.S. referred to it as the North Vietnamese Army (NVA), or People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) and this term is commonly found throughout Vietnam War-related subjects.

    US ARMY - The United States entered the war to prevent a communist takeover of South Vietnam as part of a wider strategy called containment. Military advisors were sent beginning in 1950. U.S. involvement escalated in the early 1960s and combat units were deployed beginning in 1965. Involvement peaked in 1968 at the time of the Tet Offensive. Under a policy called Vietnamization, U.S. forces withdrew as South Vietnamese troops were trained and armed. Despite a peace treaty signed by all parties in January 1973, fighting continued.

    VIET MINH - The Việt Minh pronunciation (abbreviated from Việt Nam Ðộc Lập Ðồng Minh Hội, English "League for the Independence of Vietnam") was a national liberation movement formed by Hồ Chí Minh in 1941 to seek independence for Vietnam from France as well as to oppose the Japanese occupation.

    VIETCONG - The Vietcong (Việt Cộng) was a communist army based in South Vietnam that fought the United States and South Vietnamese governments during the Vietnam War (1959-75). It had both guerrilla and regular army units, as well as a network of cadres who organized peasants in the territory it controlled. Many soldiers were recruited in South Vietnam, but others were attached to the regular North Vietnamese army.

            Cant wait for 2.0!

            By the way, none of the EOD2 servers show up on game-monitor.com when you pick Eve of Destruction in the filter. You have to type EOD in the "server name" box to get them. You might want to contact them about that, makes it look like there are no servers for EOD2.

              Bah! :laugh: Do you REALLY think that is such a big problem? (However, I think there will be some full servers, just a gut feeling I have. Even if there is just one. ) You have to understand that I did not create this project with the expectation I would have full servers. That is just a benefit. A plus. I did this for me and some of my friends. We all like Vietnam and the gameplay that can be associated with it.

              Even if there are or were no full servers. 90% of the maps currently have Co-op and SP support. I have played/tested the mod with 30 bots on each side and me and another real person playing against one another, (64 Total). I still had a good time. The other person had a good time and the bots kicked our rears.

              The EoD Mod is my "passion" for my spare time. It is my hobby, something I ENJOY doing. If people play it and enjoy it. Than that is great and I welcome all to come and try it. :thumbsup:

              Will everyone like it? Heck, I don't know, some may say it sucks. Some may play it 1 minute and uninstall it. However, others may have a ton of fun and play it for hours on end. Will we have a full server? Who knows? I sure hope so, but again, in the end. It really does not matter. Those that will be there will be there having fun. Even if we have to run a bunch of bots. We can still have a good time.

              The satisfaction for me is just this: When it is all said and done. At the end of the day. I can still say that, "I did this". That me and many others all combined our efforts, talents and experiences and created this project. It is ours and ours alone and NO ONE can take that away from us.

              I think we'll get some full servers. I think that the mod has some fun aspects of it. Let's just wait and see what happens. Afterall, I can't do any worse than any of the other "Big Name" mods.

              Finally, something you may not know about me, "TrahnLee", aka "Gunnie" in some other mod circles. Is that I love to mod all things BF2. I have done stuff for many, many mods. Big name mods, ones alot of people have played. Mods like, PR, FH2, USI, BGF, WaW, and 21CW to name a few. I have also helped many small no name mods. I've done things for alot of the PR mod "groups". I am not new to this and if it fails.. so what.. I'll still be here and I will still be having a good time.

              If it does fail. I'll just regroup, fix what needs to be fixed and keep on running through the Jungle.

              :p

                By the way, none of the EOD2 servers show up on game-monitor.com when you pick Eve of Destruction in the filter. You have to type EOD in the "server name" box to get them. You might want to contact them about that, makes it look like there are no servers for EOD2.
                Yes, we'll have to fix that when we put out v2.0. I can see that there are not many v1.1 servers.. As that mod build version is over a year old.

                  This is wonderful news! Congrats on putting so much effort into the mod, even with such a small group. I will contact people that will join you all in the Nam'! :cheers:

                    Just a small suggestion. I think the problem is not the interest in the mod, but the challenge to get a server populated. Well when the new version will come out, many will play start playing it at the same time.

                    But for the days after the launch you maybe should give the community some set times, where they all meet together and get the servers populated. The Fisr Strike team did this with Fridays and it worked, at least when they started that, I don't know how it looks like today.

                      I do not see interest as a problem, this gets front page on total, mod.db bf2 files the list goes on enough people will download it.

                        What was that saying?

                        "If you build it, they will come."

                          If this mod has the right amount of run-n-gun action, the more people will pack in to play it. If the infantry plays like COD4 it could be a major hit i think. If its too slow and tactical, you'll be competing for a much smaller player base who are already playing other mods. Thats said, i think EOD played really good last time around. It was the overkill snipers and mortor barrages that drove many away last time. That and the lack of vehicle combat was also a big factor. You can only play straight infantry for so long, and this is the battlefield series, people expect vehicles.

                          PS: Dont go overboard with claymores either, constantly running into those gets pretty annoying too. I remember lots of complaints about those last time around.

                            I assume you never played EoD in it's first 5 months?

                              You will still find Claymore's and Bouncing Betties.. HOWEVER.. They are limited to certain kit classes and number to be deployed in the world. Therefore, you won't find them everywhere and perhaps not on every map.

                              Snipers.. What snipers? Sniper classes are not a spawnable kit anymore in the mod build. After much research and discussions with real vietnam vets.. Snipers, while they existed. Were not common upon the battlefields of Vietnam. In some cases, not even in the same context of a true sniper crawling around with a sniper rifle would you find a sniper.

                              First hand from one of my Uncles who served in the Army and carried the M60 as his weapon. He actually used his M60 as a sniper rifle. Would single shoot it at the enemy. He was so good with it, he had a bounty placed upon him by the enemy. He actually has one of the pamphlets that were posted indicating how much they would pay for his death.

                              They knew who he was and where he was stationed, even the outfit he was with.

                              In anycase, don't look forward to being a Sniper in EoD. If you are a sniper in EoD, then you picked up the rifle as a pick-up kit, as you cannot spawn in with one. Yes, there are sniper pickup kits, but they are limited and not all maps will have one. They might be in the open where you can see the kit, or they may be hidden in a barrel, box or on a shelf.

                              In anycase, steps have been taken to limit the snipers, claymores/BB's and even the mortars.
