Converting Mod Maps To Other Mods

Ive seen this primarily in AIX, how is it even possible?

Don't the mod maps work exactly like a house map would, if you open it up in editor it wont show the textures and various vehicles and buildings will be missing? But yet people still manage to do it?

I only bring this up as on many occasions for my own benefit ive attempted to open some maps to edit them only to find them fail on me, i wouldn't mind knowing the trick behind doing it, it would open up so much more for my BF film.

    Hound

Make sure you ask permission before using other mods team's assets hard work and long hours.

There are a lot of "BF2 Community Maps" which have been converted to AIX. It is very simple when dealing with stock content as you just have to swap in the AIX solider's kit information.

Maps from other mods have unique assets which are appended if the mods have agreed to share a map. Frequently, a mapper might develop maps for various mod teams and have an arrangement with them to redistribute their content. For example, imtheheadhunter is a talented mapper who has work available in many mods.

AIX was initially focused exclusively on Single Player and COOP play. The players have demanded more out of the newest version, but there was a lot of conversions done so folks could play their private mini-mods and LANs because they didnt' have good Internet connections.

These conversions eventually were shared so that friends could play too... and the popularity spreads from there. Most mappers really like that quite a lot, but some mod administrators want folks to play the map in the mod it was created for.

Basically, it's always a good thing to ask permission and never, ever claim something as your own and redistribute. This has been a real problem.

In all fairness guys i never wanted to steal a map and say that it was myn, in the case im talking about, all i wanted to do was change the sky and sea, but i needed to activate lightmaps so the objects looked right. As for changing assests and so on, apart from adding a jeep or chopper here or there nothing would change, and i would still give 100% credit to the makers of the map i used.

But before i used the map i would of got permission of course

I didn't mean to imply that you would and I apologise if that's the way it sounded. I was meaning to address all who would read this thread.

If you are looking for assistance in changing those attributes, I recommend that you ask for assistance at the BF Editor forums: http://bfeditor.org/forums/index.php because you'll get good help there. Remember to search first or they'll eat you alive! (no joking)
