    HD4850 + Battlefield 2142 = no go?

    Hi All,

Looking for some input. I was updating my pc from a HD3870 to and HD4850 and cannot get the 4850 to run BF2142. Keep getting the crash after splash screen issue. Spent quite awhile looking for possible solutions (resetting profile, video.con res set to 800x600@60, sound accel, etc..) but to no avail.

Popped my 3870 back in and bf2142 started right up.

Anyone have any experience with HD4850 + BF2142?

    Thanks in advance for answers

You have the latest drivers? The ones that come with the disc usually aren't the latest.

i had the same issue when i switched to a wide screen monitor. i had to change the "target" line in the properties of the startup exe icon to add the widescreen option. go to your desktop icon & right click. then click on properties. it should look like this

        should look like this:

        "C:\Program Files\Ea Games\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +widescreen 1

You need to edit the resolution refresh rate in all the video.con files, including default, 0001,0002 etc and delete the contents of the cache folder.
If you move the Battlefield 2142 folder from Documents to your desktop, it will reset all the game settings, make sure you know your account name and password.
If it works you can move your some of the con files from your old profiles folder to the new, but I would leave audio and video.con as they are probably causing the problem.

Are you sure you tried the hotfix drivers from here?

Hi Natt, thanks for the reply

I've done the items you mentioned without success.

Thanks everyone for the advice. If anyone has additional ideas I'll be happy to try em :)

                Hi Kradath,

The hotfix drivers are not available for download are those different or more currenrt than the 8.8 set?

saw an article from xbit labs where they benchmarked the hd4850 performance on bf2142, somehow they got it to work :/

forgot to mentioned that I had tried doing a "manual" unistall prior to reinstalling bf2142 to eliminate registry information also

Well there is no reason for the 4850 not to work...

Other games work OK? The last thing I can think of is if you try to reinstall the game... you never know, it seems to solve rather a lot of problems

thanks for the feedback. i'll try going back to the 8.7 drivers next. must be a conflict or some other problem. :/

I'm actually doing a fresh install on another computer on my house (like just built the pc) and will see if the 4850 works on that pc.

Hey field, what catalyst drivers are you using?

on my fresh build (e7200) game worked fine with the 4850.

using the 4850 on my 2 month old e8400 build game won't work. some tweak someplace....

tried the 8.7 drivers and game seems to be working fine.

thanks everyone for the help. odd that the 8.7 works on my 8400 processor and the 8.8 works on the 7200 processor (same mobo's).
