PLZ help

I have had the game ever since it came out i played on my comp with the geforce 6600 played fine no problems and now, I buy a new comp thinking my laptop should kill this game. It get amazing frame rates with everything on full 100FPS but will sometimes drop to 25/18 fps no cause as far as i can tell. My specs are
Dell xps M1530
2.5 ghz dual core t9300 i think
geforce 8600 overclocked 600 mhz core clock, 1200mhz shader clock and 901mhz for memory.
4 gigs of ram
vista
any help is appreciated and problem also persists in bf 2142 beats me as to what is going on.
-note i can play crysis on med,play cod4 on full and its a solid laptop as far as i can tell

Laptops overheat much faster then desktops, that might be why your frame rates drop.

My first guess would be some kind of throttling, probably related to temps. Check your BIOS options and your temps. Good luck!

Make sure you are not running any anti-virus programs. If you are simply disable it. I've had similar problems with COD4 where the same random drop in frame rates would happen. Always try and run as liitle programs as possible when playing games.

Laptops overheat much faster then desktops, that might be why your frame rates drop.

Especially with an OC'ed video chip. You could try backing off on the OC to see if it helps. A laptop cooling pad might help enough that you could OC without overheating. Are you running any fan- and temp-monitoring software? Not sure if i8kfangui will work on your model; you could also try speedfan.

i have a laptop like that... great specs and all, but it lags a little, just try turning your video settings down to medium or something, it worked for me! good luck

If you had googled it you would see it's a program to help games that don't work well with multi-core CPUs. Apparently does the same thing that you can do manually in the task manager: set a process to run on only one core. You can use the program to make it automatically start that way every time you run the game.

The BF series works fine on multicore systems. The only time you need an optimiser is for old Athlon 64 CPU's.
