    Battlefield 2 crashing

I've owned BF2 for over a year now and have uninstalled/reinstalled it several times as a result of reformatting and disk cleaning. I reinstalled it again today because I kept getting an error saying "Invalid CD key" when attempting to enter a server.

So after the new install, every time I click on the sound tab on the BF2 menu the game crashes immediately to desktop. Also, whenever I try to join a server, it crashes to desktop.

    What's the deal???

You need to manually uninstall the game and re-install.
Use the Manual Uninstall do the same if you have Special Forces.
        Install BF2
Install SF if you have it.
        Patch to 1.41
Install Booster packs and patch to 1.41 again if you have them.

If it works you will then most likely have to install Punkbuster Services and manually update punkbuster.

ok i went through all the manual steps but i couldnt complete this one:

          # Go to the following folder: C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information.

          * If you cannot find this folder you may have to go to Tools > Folder Settings and click the setting to "SHOW hidden folders."

i couldnt fine installshield, and i couldnt find tools > folder settings. i looked in control panel, program files, and searched.

          wtf?

Yeah I couldn't find it either, it might only be there if you downloaded BF2 stuff from EA Downloader.
The audio tab crash can also be caused by bf2 conflicting with another program, see here.

OK I reinstalled the game and it worked fine, for awhile.

I tried playing it again today and it crashed - BF2 and Special Forces.

Whenever I join a server, the game immediately went to desktop. W.T.F!

i will keep bumping till this gets resolved.

I get that sometimes, it always connects next time round.
If it is happening every time, try system restore, if that doesn't work, try changing +fullscreen 1 to +fullscreen 0 in the shortcut target, and see if you get an error message.
Crashes when joining a server are usually cd key or directx errors.

                  changing the fullscreen option worked!

problem is, i can't enter the server because the window is too small. the text is all out of place too. i tried maximizing the game manually but it won't let me. i can only minimize.

                  wtf?!
