Ventrilo problems

I'm trying to get my ventrilo to work. My voice is not working. I did the setup, with no problem. I'm getting a error.

Unable to activate direct sound for selected device. Direct sound capture create failed, hr. = 8

everything is checked. I am using vista 32 bit.

The sound card is a Sigmatel High Definition Audio Codec. I never ran admin. I just downloaded ventrilo from the website. I just filled in the blanks for setup. Didn't know if there is a xp mode or not.I can hear the people in vent, but i can't speak

Specs Please. What sound card? Did you run Ventrillo in admin/XP mod? looks like your sound card doesnt like Ventrillo.
