2142 suffering with hiccups!

Hi folks,

Have been playing 1.50 2142 for over 4 weeks now after a years absence and it's always been silky smooth up until 4 days ago when it started playing silly buggers.

My problem is my character at intermitent moments will turn in odd directions......for example I could be running forward and then suddenly be running in the opposite direction.

Or I do a turn left and end up facing right......it has a hiccuping feel to it when it happens (Sry but that's the best way I can think to describe it)

This appears to be an online problem as SP seems fine.


I could handle it to start with but now its practically happening every 10 seconds or so.

I've updated PB and Direct X,also lowered my graphics and played on low ping (20 or so)) 16 man conquest servers to see if it solves the problem......no change tho.

Every other online game I play is totally fine and 2142 and Punkbuster have got permission in my firewall.

Specs are in my sig and I'm running XP Sp2.


Any ideas boys? ..........oh! and nothing's overclocked btw.

it probebly has to do with your internet connection. with the olympics i had the same problems and on some days i couldn't even walk because of the warping. just wait a week and it should correct itself. it can be that the connection points(sorry i dont know how to translate it from dutch to english) got overloaded. if the load shrinks or capacity grows it should correct itself. you could do a spyware scan to see if some spyware keeps uploading and eats your brandwith but i dont think thats the point.

Just strange my other online games are ok.

Good point about runnning a spyware scan just to be sure.....I'm on it now

Well this has got me stumped lads.

I've been playing more 2142 and it's been getting worse...it appears my ping sky rockets up to say 200...then back to 20,then 600 and back to 20 or so and keeps fluctuating madly for the whole session (even up to 900+ !)

I'm quite naturally getting kicked left right and centre from servers after 10 minutes of play now due to high average ping.

This seems to be causing my crazy directional problems.

I'm playing on the lowest latency conquest servers I can find (15-20 ping)

I've done a virus check and spy ware scan but nothing comes up as well.

What has confused me,and leads me to think its something to do with bf2142 is I've just finished a 6 hour online session on Armed Assault and my ping never went above 30..no slow downs or 'hiccups'.

Same deal whilst playing 'Grid' and GTR2 online.

Anymore ideas chaps?

Try shutting down all background programs, last person who had this problem said it was to do with steam.

I had the same problem and found out that if i put the sound back to basic settings it went back to playing as normal, of course this phucks you up sound wise, as after having everything on ultra and having to back pedal to low, everything sounds like it coming throught the wrong side of a road cone but it does stop the hiccups. If you then keep playing around with your sound option it will eventually be okay again

i get hiccups all the time, especially hate it while i'm flying. one second it does a momentary hang, and the next second i've crashed into the ground. this is a BF thing. it also happens in BF2.

Wahey!

It seems 'VOIP enabled' was causing the high ping problem.

Had every setting in options turned to low (audio/video) but it made no difference until I disabled VOIP.It's weird because it had never gave me any probs before.

Just had a few hours on 2142 and everything seems to be back to normal,graphics whacked back up to max and no crazy pings/hiccuping......lets hope it stays that way
