Having a blast on this server. Some of the best BF players stop in for some rounds... it's quite fun!

The mod server has some customized maps that JE Raiders have been tweaking to make them "Air Cav" maps with lots of helicopters, tanks and AA. Make sure and stop by their forum to download the customized maps before joining. :salute:

        Sonic,

I am glad to hear that others are having fun tweaking this mod to keep it fresh and enjoyable however let me see if I understand you correctly. Your telling us that JE modified some of the maps or the AIX mod itself, or are they just rapid spawning the vehicles? I am not sure if they removed the post I made on the Battlefield 2 Single Player forums, however if it's still there and you read you will understand why I am asking you this.

It took some trial and error but have you ever seen a Black Hawk drop bombs or the SR71 firing a tactical nuke? It is simply amazing what you can do with this stuff. Next up are some CBU87's for the F16 if I can get them to work as well, however I am not sure why I am telling you this because the AIX team & headhunter will have a hissy fit if I release them to the public again……..:dead:

We modded maps and AIX itself. We had a locked server up and running an air war we put together with the help of some friends. We had heavily modified the content and illegally used content from other mods to put our war together but we did it in private.

I don't agree with the way you were treated over there at BFSP. It seemed to me as if you started a feeding frenzy of sharks. IMO they overreacted to your publicly modded server. In a way, this was still private because only "members" -- bear with me here -- could gain access to the files needed to connect to the server. I personally don't think that strategy would succeed outside of a large community. I've tried it myself a number of times in various games.

I believe in freedom. I would think that most folks would be happy to see their creations being utilized in new ways. Some folks have an idea of ownership over their creations and that's okay too.

I can understand yet disagree. I think it is wasted effort to try to control others. Let them do as they will.

I'm only working on SP/COOP stuff for myself now because I want to work on things like you speak of -- tinkering around and having fun exploring (EDIT: I am still working on a pack of original MP maps -- but this is on low heat until some more permissions come through). So, I'm setting up my little LAN at home with my customized version of BF2 and leaving it at that. That's enough fun for now and there's a Wii under my Christmas tree already.

Once BF3 comes out, I'll do some MP gaming again but not before.

Just to be clear, I'm currently only modding my personal minimod which runs on top of AIX 2.0.

              Howdy Thunder. How are things?

The problem with this approach is that the public is still invited to join and become a member to download the modded AIX files. Not very private is it.

If you want to create a minimod, as Clivewil has previously suggested over at BFSP, then that is fine. That way the core AIX mod/maps remain intact and still let users play on other default AIX servers and without screwing up their AIX mod install.

But having the public or "private members" download modded AIX files to install in the core AIX1 or AIX2 mod and play on a publicly accessed server (with or without password) is not allowed.

Sonic, I sincerely apologize for getting you caught up in this mess.... All I can say is that it a good thing that EA doesn’t share their philosophy, otherwise there wouldn't be mods and we wouldn't be having this debate.

After the grief I caught over on the BFSP forums I removed all the public download links as well as any threads promoting them and the way it stands now, I have only distributed the custom files and server password to 8 of my friends and 1 other person, however since I am updating and changing things on almost a daily basis his version is no longer valid so it’s just the 8 of us.

I have to say this closed minded attitude sucks in a way I thought only George Bush could and while I acknowledge that it takes a considerable amount of effort and work to develop these mods, this is not rocket science and some of your folks need to get off your high horses. Yea, yea, yea before you say it, the reason I don’t make my own mods is that I am too damn lazy, there I said it. I also said it wasn’t rocket science, however I did acknowledge that it takes a considerable amount of work & effort not to mention again, the fact I am too damn lazy..:gob_icon_redface:

It would be more sympathetic and could possibly understand the attitude if people were doing this and then trying to claim it as their own but the simple fact of the matter, at least in my case is, that I went out of my way to acknowledge both the AIX mod team and imheadhunter so that folks clearly understood who deserved credit for making this possible and for their original content but I guess that wasn’t enough to satisfy their respective ego’s. Hell they way I see it the AIX folks should be flattered that out of all the BF2 mods, I felt that your was the only one worthy of my time experimenting with it but for reasons that elude me you guys don’t see it that way.

Anyway I have spoken my peace, it’s just a damn shame you mod guys feel the way you do about this.

                      correct,
the private server im running to be clear is a mini mod at this point with no original aix 2.0 content touched, same goes for the aix special forces nightvision mod and the special forces aix 2.0 server im running

                      the V22 added is sweet

                        Mitch,

It seems you do not understand what a mini-mod is/does.

I suggest you discuss privately with SonicPixel and/or ThunderJE to get your server up and running with whatever changes you want to AIX using a mini-mod.

Then the only thing you will need to get permission on is if you plan on changing headhunter's maps and stuff since that is outside the AIX core mod.

Mitch, you can really customize things quite a lot by adding additional, cloned content on top of your base mod. I've learned a lot by observing what Whitecats/Devilman has done to make Special Forces work with AIX. This way, I don't break the license agreement by modifying the mod files and I can still get some customization I'm enjoying so much.

If I understand the offical position, they have taken this track to ensure that folks looking for a game don't become confused with "different versions of AIX" and I'm sure that could be a support-issue nightmare for an all-volunteer staff. I can understand that.

With the playerbase for BF2 becoming so small, I really don't care too much about it myself but that doesn't mean I just disregard the devs. For a mod that is focused on SP, being told not to customize the experience for a better MP game is somewhat odd. Perhaps they don't realize that the game is not balanced for MP, a number of folks want to play it and rebalancing it is required. No, they understand that quite well.

I'm not going to go against their wishes so I'm only playing at my home now. That's actually been very, very good for me as I've broken my obsession with pwnage. =)

If you have any questions, I can attempt to answer via PM.

I understand what a mini mod is, however after much consideration I have decided to keep this private that way I won't need to deal with all the politics.

The way it stands now only myself and 8 of my friends have the custom files and after discussing various options with them, we decided that it wasn’t worth the hassle just so we could release this to the public.

The simple fact of the matter is the server is really not set up to accommodate a bunch of public players because if you get too many folks on the human team it takes away from the intent and the overall enjoyment.

The other factor in our decision not to create a mini-mod, is that we are constantly changing stuff, almost on a daily basis and it's hard enough keeping the 8 of us up to date with the changes let alone the everyone else that might want to check this out.

Just for the record, I have spoke with everyone in our group and informed them that under no circumstance are they to release these files to anyone. Each of them agreed not release the files and since I know all but one of them personally, I am fairly confident in saying the custom files won’t be released to the general public.

Hopefully this action will put an end to any further controversy :shakehead:
