        Re: Statement on CoH expansions

Sorry to bring an old thread to life, but the topic about added new factions is really interesting to me.

The Russians are an important edition, because they already have the Wehrmacht and Panzer Elite as opponents. On the topic about not being able to retreat, you can balance that. With the Russians, you could have a veterancy system based on officers, in the Russian’s case, Commissars. While you can’t retreat, these political military leaders would give bonuses, and Charge/Rush abilities.

For regular units, the Infantry would cost less, be slightly less effective, but have larger squad sizes. Early Russian tanks are similar, but T-34s would be very effective. However, it would take time before these could be produced for balance. Medium AT guns, vehicles-> T-60 recon, BT-7 fast light tank. As far as the three companies goes, one would have to be Human Wave, which would be huge infantry swarms bonuses, Grenade Tossing Berserkers, PPSH Death Squads, and Snipers, as well as some abilities, like “Defend the Motherland!”, which gives defensive bonuses in territory. This is to represent the soldiers that fought during Stalingrad. You get where I’m going. 2nd would have to be Mechanized/Tank, which would add a fast recon tank T-70 that caps flags, Heavy KV-1 or KV-2 Tanks (Huge heavy tanks, like Churchills but slower/no flamethrowers), and a single IS-2 (Tiger/KingTiger-sh) at the end of the tree, plus tank related abilities. Third would have to be Mobile Artillery, focusing on BM-13 Katyusha trucks, SU-76, and 1 single SU-152. Those last two reflect the period when the Russians were racing to Berlin

Of course, this is just a general idea. That one mod with the Soviets probably has a format with some similarities regarding the massive vehicles, and they probably know more than I do.

I think the Italians should be considered, but not in the sense of North Africa. If there were North African Troops, like an Italo-German Afrika Korps, you’d have to add British and US forces with the technology of that time period, which would be changing the current US and British armies. Instead, if you add the Italians, it should be during the Invasion of Italy, with a combined Italo-German Force with German commanders. If this worked out, the Italian basic unit would be similar to the Soviets. Low quality cheap infantry, that’s massed, produced. However, the Italians would have weaker infantry, in the sense of no possible upgrades for the basic infantry, besides grenades. The Italians didn’t have many squad support weapons, but a mortar team and MMG team would exist, since those Italian weapons functioned. Germans would be the more advanced infantry/vehicles, with exception to the later war Italian Self-Propelled weapons. The 3 companies would be 1, Defense Infantry, which represents the troops at Monte Cassino, 2 Armor Support, which would have for recon the Carro Armato L6/40, Semovente DA 75/18 (or variant), L3-35/LF Flamethrower light tank, and Panzer 4 Group/Team. Nothing big, but multi-role, with recon, medium tanks, flame tanks, and assault guns. The Italian tanks didn’t have very good armor, so it balances since sticky bombs could take’m out pretty easily. Basically, just ok at everything, quantity over quality, multi-role. 3rd would be Artillery, since the Italian Arty Schools were fairly good (compared to the others). Basically, it’d give Old Arty guns/howitzers, as well as the German Wespe Self-propelled howitzers. For kicks, you’d also have off map arty, from rail-road arty guns, or whatever those things were.

Also, with the more modern Italians, you could play games against Russia with Germany, acting as the Italian Expeditionary forces that fought on the Eastern Front. This way, you could have a combined Russian and Italian expansion.

Japan is a must. Japanese Squad level action would rock in this game, that, and Japan could fight US (Marine special faction required), British/Commonwealth (Burma, Singapore, New Guinea, heck, even Hong Kong), and the Russians. That, and the Japanese doctrine of Infiltration would really change game play.

Japanese army was predominately Infantry, since their tanks were terrible to begin with, and jungle terrain is bad enough for vehicles. Jap Infantry would have different versions, militia, regulars, then advanced based on company. Support teams, etc. Officers, Banzai charges. Fortifications, and probably most important, field artillery. AT guns and machine gun nests. I can only really come up with 2 companies. 1 would be for the Japanese Marines, which would have offmap Naval Gun support, Carrier Air Support, advanced offensive infantry 2 I guess would have to be the official, “Stealth” company, which gives advanced stealth/raiding troops and all fortifications to be stealthed. This seems unfair, but it was the reason why the Japanese delayed US forces. This also makes up for the fact that the troops, though they have good morale bonuses, are weaker than normal. Other than that, I’m sort of lost for the Japanese. Maybe, Japanese would have slight combat bonuses on night maps?

With the Japanese, you can add US Marines to go with them, they would be similar, with only 2 Companies. Their companies would be 1. Landing Force-> LVTs (slow, but act as APCs, and light tanks), Naval Gunnery/ CAS from Carriers, then Ground Force-> Focusing on entrenchment, using land arty guns, land based tanks-M3 Stuart, could be used in Philippines scenario, as opposed to a new US Army. You could combine the two, Japanese and Marines into an expansion/booster pack of sorts.

Sorry if this counts as spam...

          Re: Statement on CoH expansions

New factions must fit in western Europe, if you can't play old maps it would be bad, so no japanese army. The add-on is maybe just a bunch of downloadable contents, like the Tiger Ace campaign and new units like the Schwimmwagen and the Staghound.

^Yup to my understanding there is going to be one more expansion pack for Coh, not Ostfront, as they have a 5 year plan for CoH im pretty sure that will be the first front on CoH2 (using DoW2 engy) - this is all my own speculation but it makes sense :p
