    local files in vista...

So I edited my local files and it works in my XP computer but when I tried to xfer them onto both of my vista laptops and open the game, it will not start. However, when I put back the original files it will start again.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows a way around this vista bullshlt so I can enjoy my editd local files on my laptops too.

PEBKAC. Its not Vista. Put your Vista localizations back where they were ( I hope you backed them all up.). You only needed to replace the XXXXXX.utxt file (in the program Files/BAttlefield 2/mods/BF2/*.* folder) where XXXXXX is your language. You probably tried to also transfer the files in your profile folder to the new computers. I highly doubt that your desktop and your laptops all use the same graphics settings and resolutions. That's probably your real problem.

Don't copy the entire folder. Just copy your controls.con and your localization files and there shouldn't be a problem.

I don't copy a folder or anything like that, I use 6 .utxt files that I have edited myself and transfer them into the english localization folder, exactly the same way I have done on my XP computer.

And yes I always keep the original files of what I have edited and I have done this more than once on my desktop after formating it a few times so this isn't something hard for me to do. I have done exactly everything I do on my XP desktop computer on the vista laptops but it does not work.

The only thing that I can think of now that wizrd mention it is something to do with .con files because I do not remember touching those, isn't that the file that I can edit to set my bf2 resolution into widescreen if I remember correctly?

I'll sum it down point blank though, this is what I have done:

edited 6 utxt files from bf2/modfs/bf2/localization/english that work on my desktop XP computer but when I move these files to my vista laptop to the exact same location, the game will not start.

No, forcing widescreen is done from the shortcut.

Controls.con and video.con store (obviously) your controls and video settings. I have no idea why it would do that. Have you tried editing them manually and starting up?
