lol? Ping is directly related to upload/download speeds. Your Ping is how latent your connection to the server is; ie if you have a high ping your computer is communicating with the server very slowly. If you have a low ping, your computer has a fast connection with the server.

Ping in and of itself is how long it takes for your computer to send a "packet" of information to the server (and get it back). Ping is measured in Milliseconds. So if your ping is 70, it takes 70 milliseconds to send a packet to the server and for the server to send it back.

How fast you can send packets is of course determined by how fast your upload/download speed is. The reason you have higher pings if the server is located far away from you is that electricity has to travel, and the farther it has to travel the longer it takes to get there... Granted, even sending packets to Europe it only takes 150-300 milliseconds, but in an FPS that can make all the difference.

Ping related lag happens when a server isn't communicating with your computer fast enough... The higher your ping, the more chance the server has of "dropping" (or "losing") your packets and vice versa. If packets get dropped, your computer doesn't know how to display the location of everything on the server properly, thus you get the choppy/jumpy gameplay.

Yeah, I have basic DSL at home which is around 1meg a second and I can still get a good 40 ping to texas servers and low 10's to local chicago servers.
