Late 2008 early 2009, they already said that. And as far as I know there are no server so im not sure about that ad, it is all match making.

So that more issues can be found and resolved within the game before its official release. Also, public because they want to include us (the community) in on the stuff for PR I would guess.

Well, if it's a free game, you are going to have a much larger base to work on.. rather than a beta.

It's pointless imho. The beta for most BF games are filled with ego stroking gamers that want to play first. You should have seen the beta for Northern Strike.
