And why should server owners care if people are sharing a game anyways? :p
Well, to be sarcastic, it's their server they can do what they want with it. On a more serious note, I don't think a lot of server owners care so much about whether you buy the game so much as they care about hackers. And since some people who pirate the game are more inclined to hack or just be flaming jerks b/c they got the game for free and it has no value to them. If you spend $50 on a game you might try to a little more courteous b/c you don't wanna be banned from a good server.

Since we have purchased quite a few other games together that sucked scrotes, I now download every game and play for at least an hour before I spend $100 on it. I really wish I could have demoed BF: Euro Force and Armored Fury before spending money on them. With vanilla BF2, BF2:Special Forces, AF and EF, it was $100 EACH. My wife doesn't play single-player games, so when I tested Crysis and hated the multiplayer it saved me another $50.
Bottom line: If X360 players can sit side-by-side on the couch and play together, why do PC gamers have to spend double the money for the same experience. We've already spent twice as much on the hardware, now we have to buy games twice as well. Sure, 8 people with the same guid and IP hitting up a server from a LAN party is a little extreme, but two people in the same room trying to play?
Interesting point but all that stuff would take a lot of time, and unfortunately the devs have deadlines, and they spend all that time on security, and multi-user capability split screen stuff, the gameplay may suffer b/c they haven't spent as much time one it.

Sitting side by side on the couch also means split-screen gaming. If that is what you want, then you should buy a console.

A PC is for all purposes a one-man machine. If you want to have two PCs running at the same time, then you need two Windows licenses. If you each want to work with Word at the same time then you need two licenses for that etc.
Why should you be entitled to a discount just because you live together? Do you in any way cost the developers less than when I want to play with my brother who lives somewhere else?

I think most of us would be very happy if our Wife/GF shared our interest for PC games. If you don't want to pay double price then have her buy her own games.

Hey, BF2 is only $9.99 after 3 years, and it's still going strong. :)

Have fun playing in the year 2018 while we are all immersed in online alternate reality gaming warfare cuz that's about how long you will be waiting for it to be $15

Hmm, maybe I'll buy the game when it's like $15 instead of freeloading off my friend's lol.

Because then we might as well all just share the same game, and not buy the game? >_>

    Re: No CD key check?

It all depends what the server pb_sv_guidrelax setting is, as Dan said.

There is a bug in COD4 currently, that resets it to 7 on every map change and server restart - so on that note, server admins should add "pb_sv_task 30 300 pb_sv_guidrelax 0" (or whatever their preference is for the setting) to their pbsv.cfg to force the setting back every few minutes.

No CD needed to launch MP ftw!

Imma try going online with my friend's GUID on the same time he's on and see what happens.
