    COMMANDERS: Winning doesn't turn your job into a part-time one.

    I will physically destroy the next person who attempts to pull this sort of incredibly stupid thinking on his team.

    If you are a commander and your team is having a ticket lead, this is not an excuse for you to jump into the fight. You picked up the job; it's your responsibility to carry it to its end no matter what happens.

    I had this happen yesterday. I told my commander to get away from the fight and do his job. He screamed at we that we were having a ticket lead and to shut the hell up. End result: we got our back flags taken countless times by entire squads sneaking past us because the CO was too much of a dumb**** to keep his eyes on the SAT track. Guess how many times I've been killed because of his idiocy, because I was looking for an opening in the enemy defense and kept running into squads right around the corner because I was getting zero intel.

    News flash: the team isn't necessarily doing well because of you. You are not a badass. I've seen teams win without a commander and lose with one. And most important of all, winning does not put the CO out of his job.

    There's two ways your team can win. It can win cleanly and squarely with the help of spottings, UAVs and orbital strikes, or it can win feeling like ****. At the end of the round, even if the team won, if I worked my *** off under a leeching useless commander, I'm not happy, and I wish I could have admin powers just to ban him away and force him to pad his stats elsewhere. I'd rather not have a CO at all than spoon-feed free points to a n00b.

    i hate fighting commanders. when there not using their assets, they should be constantly spotting the enemy & walking squad leaders through their positions

      shurikane..unless its an actual competition, having a commander is a luxury. it is YOUR job to keep your EYES OPEN, shoooot people, stay alive, help your squadmates. You are running around corners and getting blasted by whole squads simply because you have dull senses and lack an understanding of what is going on and then you sprint everywhere because your impatient and then you dont look around with your beedy eyes to detect someone that wants to shoot you.

      You need to put things into your own hands

        Re: COMMANDERS: Winning doesn't turn your job into a part-time one.

        Damn, sorry you both be hatin' me, but I'm a fighting commander. I'll preface this, because I rarely ever start a round commanding. I usually pick it up mid round if:
        1) I feel I can swing a light loser into a win by commanding;
        2) I can take a probable victory into a solid and concrete victory;
        3) I'm in a crappy no-talky no play together squad;
        3) I'm in 32 player server or smaller; and,
        4) Nobody else wanted the job.

        Admittedly I'll allow you to ***** and complain about doods taking the spot at the beginning of the round, particularly in large servers, and then not keeping busy with commander duties. Sure, leechers exist. But overall commanding is a thankless job spent staring at a screen akin to tabletop risk and clicking on red dots. Yay! I don't need the commander points. I'm a brig, got the unlocks I need, and only do it to give my side a benefit.

        And I don't plan on stopping my command assaults, particularly because I do a pretty darn good job of staying on top of my duties.

          When I command, I do what I want. I want to WIN. I will do whatever is necessary to reach that end, regardless of if that means I will be SAT Tracking or on the front lines. If a peon doesn't like it, thats just too bad.

            yeah i agree with splitz most of the time if i ever play as commander (if) i will act as an attachment to squads, like in warhammer 40k tabletop i would be the "commander unit attached to a squad" mostly in my somewhat odd situation especially on smaller servers of 30 or less especially with alot of noobs around we actually have a better chance of winning if i am to give MYSELF all the assets because 95% of the time i make the best use of them LOL. but if people follow me around and realize that i am dropping UAVs in good spots for them and we all move in together where i scan and fire orbitals and give people boxes we do pretty well.

            mostadatime though id rather be getting the extra points from revives, healing, resupplying and such instead because unless you have an UBER commander like Sonja or someone the commander isnt going to be a giant factor in winning

            youknow come to thinkofit alot of the time the commander is pure tardspawn where i ask him to give me a box............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ...........and then my box icon on the map is still yellow so i ask again............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ......and then i wonder why the commander is so unresponsive so then i just forget about it. WTF IS HE DOING???? IS HE DEAF??

              fightin commanders FTW! vehicle commanding, AFK commanding, i've done em all and i don't care if somebody hates it. would you rather have no commander? at least i might give you supply drops and UAV occasionally.

              it's a thankless job. you gamble with only getting a half score vs getting 2x score. when you do your job well, nobody appreciates you, and your team can lose because they just plain suck. funny that i've gotten so many gold medals when i AFK command (while taking a shower, eating a meal, sleeping, etc.)

                I don't like commanders because their supply crates always seem to gravitate towards my head

                  are fighting commanders against ROA?
                  no?
                  ok then :P

                  if they were really doing that crap a job everyone would page up in the mutiny , like field says you shouldn't be dependent on your commander to keep you alive

                    It does put alot of burden on commanders if the team becomes too reliant on the intel he provides, particularly the UAV. While he's certainly nice to have around, it's the rest of the players out there in harms way that is doing the actual fighting and seeing the threat with their own eyes. I reckon they are the ones that decide if you win or lose. So alittle more being careful and watching your surroundings and alittle less expecting the UAV to light your minimap up like a chrismas tree. A resourceful, self reliant squad led by a good squadleader i feel is more than a match to a squad that's filled with self-absorbed individuals that needs to be spoon-fed details on where the enemy is by the commander.

                    But having said that, any commanders out there that is needlessly misappropriating his teams resources deserves to be shot.

                      A Commander is only as good as the people he commands. Always listen to your commander. He has more intel than you do, and he probably has the squads planned. I don't know how many times a squad ignores me and takes a flag even though I told them to go somewhere else. (they usually end up dead)

                        To be fair, I've had more than my fair share of pants-on-head retarded commanders, so it's not ALWAYS a good idea to listen to your commander, but if he's a fairly experienced player then yeah he probably knows what he's doing.

                          Well there is always going to be good and bad CO's. I have never been (and don't want to) a commander but I have seen the difference a good one can make from both sides. A couple days ago I happen to become squad leader when the one we had dropped and we were behind about 75 points. I tell you this guy was good. Always in constant communications with all the squads and given intel about every order. We came back and won because of him and everyone following his orders. It is a thankless job but I for one appreciate all the good ones out there.

                            This subject has been debated many times on here since 10/18/2006, but I thought I would add my 3c anyway....

                            I started from day one, now have 820 total hours played and 354 hours as commander. I am ranked # 98 in commander stats. I try to play full Conquest maps with balanced teams. If I am involved in a blow out, I usually go elsewhere. My total W - L is > 1957 - 1844. Everyone's style of play is different. Some can fight and play commander. I can't. I suspect if you do both, your team is not getting everything they need, all the time. Between the UAV, SCAN, SUPPLIES, EMP STRIKE, and ORBITAL STRIKE recharging and needing to be used, giving new orders to each squad, so they get max points, watching for intruders in back flag areas, I can't even go take a leak without missing something !!! I rarely play commander in Titan mode..just too boring..if I do, I stay on the main deck as an engineer and man the AA guns...

                            I enjoy Titan mode as a player when two evenly matched teams are playing...

                            I was really disappointed to see the creators of this game abandon it. I really enjoy it, as it just has so many facets, options and niches, it is difficult to get bored.

                              heh i used to be high as 50 when i used to command a lot. i liked to command because it meant i can just go do whatever i want anywhere on the map and not worry about scoring. if i win, (which i did more than lose) then i get double pts. and usually a gold or silver medal. on top of all that, the commander success pts. were just gravy. it was more relaxing way to play, plus i always can supply drop for myself which meant a lot of vehicle pwnage. sorry to say, i usually used the commander assets to keep myself alive and getting kills. not many people really care about a commander, so i don't feel bad about it, plus like half of them don't even care for orders.

                              i pretty much quit commanding though because whenever i try to actually be a good commander, the squads didn't care for orders and it was too frustrating to get your team working together intelligently. i recall the last straw was when i was issuing orders and one of the squad leaders happened to be an admin and banned me because he didn't want to play with orders/objectives.:shakehead:

                              ps, they didn't really abandon the game, we got a patch just recently (although it was the usual buggy patch that is the trademark of dice). but then the stats are broken for the new game mode and maps. :dead:
