The competetive gaming scene for BF2 isn't very good... mostly because BF2 is pretty random in gameplay itself.

I was in an CAL 8v8 IO Ladder with uh... who was it Forsaken Angels? I don't remember... but BF2 gets to a point where you can actually be really good, but you still have to rely on the amount of random shots and lucky grenades as everyone else. BF2 infantry was never really meant for competition is what I'm trying to say.

And the TWL 2v2 chopper ladders IMO is pretty... lame. Just two choppers flying around a map... TV-ing each other? That doesn't sound like much fun, I would rather play in a pub.

EDIT: Fallen Angels, you can look it up, I might still even be on the roster lol.

That's because it isn't any fun. In all honesty, it always felt like more of a chore - work, essentially - for me to fly someone around to take all the shots.

It was a little more fun when I was gunning, but again... playing hide and go f*ck yourself for 5 minutes until someone spots the other gets tiring extremely rapidly.

We defended our superiority for weeks until TWL made an administrative f*ck-up, at which point we decided to quit and move on to greener pastures.

Despite all the bullsh*t you have to deal with, pubbing is still exponentially more fun than 2v2.

Pubbing's fun until you meet someone who solos. Chances are the only thing he's good at is gunning, and therefore he'll just range his chopper away before he shoots.

HOWEVER, that can ALSO be fun. Because then you have the challenge of dodging his shot (which is a great feeling once you get a hold of it).

You know, if nobody's waiting to take the heli with me, I'll happily play ninja and dodgemaster with someone else... but when there are people constantly trying to hop in, you have to play the lamer as well. Fortunately, most people can't time their dodges/shots for sh*t, so you can drop them and then play ninja.

Your best bet is to find a larger server and play there for awhile. If you find yourself gravitating towards some particular players because you enjoy gaming with them, consider taking a next step and joining with them on their voice server, etc.

It's not a wise idea to think about going out to join a clan -- its better to let it happen.

As for tournament play, it's normally much more team-focused than public games and can be fun and rewarding, too. However, there is a time commitment you need to be able to keep. There are practice sessons, meetings, strats, etc. which need to be done if your team will win. If you can't do that, you shouldn't join a tourney.

BTW - there are different kinds of "tournament play". Some, like 21CW offer on-going, weekly, mega-battles where you are assigned to a unit and have a role to perform. Others, like TWL or TGN, you bring your own team with you and you play as a squad in matches against other squads. These are both commonly referred to as "tournaments" yet, are very different.

I'd call 21CW more of a "War Simulation" than a tournament, but again, it's all in the name.

I think TGL is more of what you'd consider a "tournament" tournament in that you have rankings and an ultimate winner at the end of the season.

Yeah, I hear and agree with you, Webs. However they all (BFE/CF2142/21CW/22CW/ASW/IC, etc.) describe themselves as "tournaments" but they really are "campaign warfare" and don't fit the common defininition of tournament play. But, that's not my idea so I'm just going with the program...

The only clans I know about are the ones NOT to join.

{DP} clan: they had some nice guys, but some of them just don't like being killed, especially with a knife to the face. I was in this clan for a little while until I got banned without a reason. These guys would insist I join TS, then accuse me of using it to find their positions. Asshatterey.

)BIA( clan ... or )BIA(tch: I never liked theses guys. They kick for stupid reasons.

*TA* clan: I used to like these guys a lot, but recently they've acquired some new admins with sh¡tty tempers. The other day I was taking off in the J10 and got rammed by a friendly car. I got kicked for it.... Then I came back and was having an excellent round running people over and knifing this one *TA* repeatedly until I was kicked for 'glitching'. Most of the older members here are pretty reasonable though.

I would never want to join anyone's clan. Tried it once and I just can't deal. I don't follow orders, especially from some giant pen¡s clan owner. My only interest in having a clan would be having a team for matches, but it's just too hard to find the right people. When it comes to BF2, just about everyone's an аsshole.
DP is a really good clan, I can vouche for them. They are fun when I played with them. But yeah, there are a few admins that are way to serious when they are playing. But they also have a competition group, as well as a hang out and pub group.

BTW, Chael, have you seen ike? He hasn't been on for a while and I don't have his number anymore to text him. I lost it when my phone flew off the roof of my car.
