It has been almost a year since I last played Bf2 due to technical issues but on my way to vacation I had to make a stop in Denver to switch planes and while walking around I noticed a gaming station. I had seen these before but this time I had noticed Battlefield 2 was one of their featured games. I decide to try it out and the first map is Mashtuur city. The connection was good but it was incredibly laggy due to the computers capabilities. I went 0-4 and then left before my time was up it was that bad.
Then when I came back on my way home I thought I would try it out again with lower graphics settings. Sure enough they were all set at medium and I moved them all to low and then proceeded to load up a 24/7 wake. The game went smoothly performance wise and I got my first real taste of the battlefield in almost a year. However I thought I picked a bad map.
I started out on the Chinese side and the USMC side was full of colonels and generals. We were backed up to the south entrance and bombs were constantly falling on us from four jets and artillery. I went 3-5 before deciding enough and just waited for the round to end. The next round we were the USMC and obviously if you can't win wake as the Chinese you can't win wake as the USMC. We never got a flag and the only kills I got were from infantry trying to overrun the carrier and the middle island. I went a pitiful 3-12 but decided to hold out for one more round as I knew that we would lose a flag as the Chinese and I would get a good ground battle.
I spawn at the north village then I quickly get in a tank and roll over to the north beach head. I kill two people with a tank but a squad load of soldiers had already landed and I was taking AT fire. I jump out and kill another guy before being killed. I spawn back at the North Village and notice the squad was moving in and outnumbered us. They had a full squad and there was only one other guy with me to defend (the rest were at the carrier go figure). I put up a fight killing about half the squad by laying down C4 and getting the enemy to try and chase me past the C4 trap then blowing them up and other rambo tactics but it was not enough and they took the flag.
I go back to the north base and I wait as the squad continues there advance. I throw all my grenades at them and try my best to stop them but we were still outgunned but people had begun to realize they would not be getting to fly the J-10 and started to come help. I noticed that there were about three snipers covering the advance from behind a plane. I run up to it drop a C4 pack on the other side and BAM! after that a tank rolled up which I was able to destroy with C4 which halted their advance.
Then the enemy took the beach and I went over there. It was a massacre for some reason the enemy was not defending it and we had loads of infantry pouring in from the southeast who were at the airfield and an attack chopper gunning down the remaining infantry. It was after this that our team really started working to get the job done on the ground. We all went back to the north side and an all out brawl continued. I would swim over to the other side and sneak up on the enemy killing them from behind but the battle ended in a stalemate with both sides just about giving up once the U.S. took the beach. This time they went there to defend.
They were trying to get to our airfield and time was running out for them. I decide to remain on the defensive, I soon heard a voice in the headphones "You have three minutes left" I quickly try and fight and get another dollar into the machine at the same time and I do. I switch back over to the game and my decision paid off as I got 3 kills from just picking off people who were running together in a squad. I got to see us win the battle and finished 24-12 which was the best infantry score on our team. After that I hung up the headphones and walked on over to my plane.
Though I liked playing BF2 for the first time in almost a year I probably wont again as the charge there at the airport was 25 cents a minutes which turned out to be about 5$ a round which was a bit much seeing as you can buy the game for 20$ and get unlimited rounds rather then only four. I think this was a good farewell game I did everything right and we won a close one. I am just going to wait on BF3 and maybe then I will upgrade my comp and be owning once again.
