First of all, install Passmark Burn-In and perform a check on your computer with that.

Next, install RivaTuner, set up a logging procedure on your temperatures, and get to playing. Check the logs after your computer reboots to see if overheating has been the culprit.

Heat problem also sounds really true but also try a virus scan? unless its with 2142 only

            Re: 2142 reboot

something like that happened to me recently. here's what happened:

i installed 2142 and played on xp for over a year, relatively stable (minus the occasional crash everyone gets)

then i had some problems with xp (virus broke some stuff) so i decided to do a fresh install of XP. note that no hardware changed.

after the install, 2142 would blue screen within seconds of spawning into the game. i figured something must be broken so i reinstalled xp. same thing. reinstalled a 3rd time. same thing.

at this point i was pretty frustrated. i tried a million things - rolling back to old drivers, taking out non-necessary hardware, etc. nothing worked. so i made an n-lite version of the xp install disk with no hardware drivers at all and then i just manually installed each driver one at a time, trying 2142 in between each. it turned out 2142 was crashing because i had a newer version of some esoteric keyboard driver that i had never used.

anyway my suggestion would be to try disabling every single hardware device you can (and still be able to run the game) and see if it still happens

Mate its your computer over heating, i have had the problem myself...

Clean your CPU fan, it will be covered in dust.

nope. i wish i was kidding, believe me. it took me days of messing with xp to get the problem solved and I still don't know exactly what happened, except that the problem disappeared when i had every System Device disabled.
