I need some help with long range sniping. When does bullet drop start coming into effect? I heard 100m, but i'm not sure. Also, how far should you compensate for when you are leading a target? Thanks for your help, and if anybody else has sniping questions post them on here and we can see if we can get them answered.

Exactly what he said. Just spend a few rounds experimenting. Hell experiment on singleplayer. The best place of found is on karkland at the bridge when on side has all the mainland flags and othe other is trying to advance off the island side. Gives you much practice because everyone is sniping on either side of the river and gives you many targets to practice on.

That can hardly be called "long range" sniping.Originally posted by GunHappyBobExactly what he said. Just spend a few rounds experimenting. Hell experiment on singleplayer. If im laying on the uphill road at Train Accident that leads to the Suburb and sniping people that are standing at the west wall of the gatehouse and they are barely out of the fog then, I consider that long distance. Now, if your on a map like Kubra Damn or sharqi peninsula where the view distance seems to be farther then, I understand where you are coming from. So yea, then you have to deviate much more but, you still need to deviate none the less. On karkand at the distance I mentioned, I basically put the cross hair right on the outline of the top of their head. It's hard to really give an accurate measurement since it's so slight that you are better off just learning discovering the deviation yourself.

Re: Long Range Sniping Help
Yeah... practice on Wake or Gulf of Oman...
On Wake, snipe from across the island, and on Oman, snipe from say, the hotel roof/crane to the shoreline bases.
Practice makes perfect - you can know all the stats about how much a bullet drops, how fast it travels, etc., but you'll never be effective unless you learn the "feel" of long range sniping - which can only be accomplished through hours of practice.

Re: Long Range Sniping Help
This might be a bit long, but here it goes
First of all, set your "geometry" and "texture" settings to the max. Do the same for "view distance" (this one is a slider). These can be found in the Video tab of the Options Menu.
Once that's done, pick a good map. Some good ones include Wake Island, Kubra Dam, Gulf of Oman, and Dragon Valley. However, stay clear of these maps (some are good for close-in sniping, but not long range) - one good example is Strike at Karkand.
Now, you have to start getting things down. Start with bodyshots. If they are standing, put the crosshair about 2-3 millimeters above their head. Don't go for anything else until you get a bit better, otherwise you'll just waste shots. The following is a general guide as to headshots. Remember, this is a rough guide and once you pull a shot off enough, you will no longer need it (it will become feel-based).
When your range is bigger than 150m, add 1 pixel of drop for every 50m. An easy way to find out your range is to
A. Create a squad (squad leader is essential for this)
B. Spot your target
C. Open up the map and place an attack marker near your target (perfection isn't required, but don't go over 50m away from the target)
D. Close the map. You should see an orange sword near your target area indicating the range. If you don't, press the "Alt" button.
Lastly, some tips...
A. I have heard from a friend that bullet drop doesn't exist beyond 400m. I have never been able to personally test this though.
B. You do have to lead your target. Don't ask me, I'm a Close Combat guy. My only word on this is try leading a target just as much as you compensate for bullet drop on it. Although this will rarely work.
If you have any questions that us TBF2ers can't answer, I recommend the following sites (these are dedicated sniper clans) in order from first to last.
www.wookie-clan.co.uk - or you can just ask Sarciss (he is a member there)

Re: Long Range Sniping Help
Surprised no ones told the guy to compensate for the lousy hit detection. That's right just because you've aimed at the target, compensated for distance, taken in to account the fact you've lead the target it doesn't always mean you will hit the target. Try to get on a server that gives you a low ping. In general if you have a low ping then you have to lead the target more to get a hit. If you have a higher ping then the hit box tends to lag behind the moving target and have to lead them less.

Re: Long Range Sniping Help
Ehh, there are plenty of good spots around the crane - the building for example. Sike, Navras, and myself have created a squad, parachuted onto the building and sniped for an entire round without being killed.Originally posted by waaah_wah View PostThats a bit obvious spots dont you think?
Granted, you could say the other team wasn't the best - but I always stayed in contact with our commander who gave us supplies every now and again.
Wake, well - where else is there to snipe from? It's just good practice.
